My CD Recorder keeps freaking out.

I've been trying and trying to make myself a damn audio CD with my computer (Win XP, Dell Computer, Roxio Software.)

But eveytime I do it it gets part-way through the process, strokes out, spits out the now ruined CD and tells me there was an error in the process. I've now gone through like 10 blank CDs, a couple different brands and it seems to make no damn difference.

Any ideas?

While I haven't had any problems with Roxio, I admit I don't use it a ton for this.

Has your optical drive done any other strange things unrelated to Roxio & the burning process?

No, infact I duplicated some CDs a couple of weeks ago for *ahem* archival purposes and the program and drive didn't seem to mind and did the job perfectly.

But now, I'm copying my favorite songs off some CDs and getting them into one CD and, well, the drive doesn't seem to like. Relatedly, and I suspect I already can figure the answer to this, I bought some MP3s of some other songs on Amazon, in the Roxio program I told it to make an Audio CD. Is the program going to conver those MP3s to something my car CD player can read and play? (.cda is the file format, IIRC.)

I kind-of suspect not but I was going to give it a shot before messing with getting a convertor.

Any number of things can gum of the works when it comes to CD burning. For example, I was having trouble with my desktop burner until I gave the drive it's own line from the power supply, without using the other power connectors on the same cable.

Maybe try to see if all the cables are still pushed in all the way. Particularly if it's SATA. I had a SATA dvd-burner that pre-dated the clip so every so often the weight of the cable would cause it to come loose just enough to cause problems. If it not may be worth getting a new drive to test out. If it still happens then you know it's a software issue and you can return the drive. If it stops happening then you know it's a problem with the drive, and you already have a new one installed in your system now.

^ It's funny that the "latest" aka:SATA has a connection that is so prone to coming loose.

One of my 2 DVD burners/Lightscribe drives almost always has a problem "seeing" the green LS disc topside. It's OK for the other colors.
