My cable modem is making buzzing noises

I have used several different cable modems in the past and I don't remember any of them making noises. My current modem though, makes a kind of static-like buzzing sound (not too unlike the sound of a HDD, but more high pitched) whenever there is any kind of internet activity, like for example downloading a file or loading a webpage. Is this normal, or should I give my ISP a call? My modem is a RCA DCM425.

It probably has an internal fan, which would be making the noise. You should pay attention to see if performance degrades when it's making noise--the fan might be failing.

I too think it's an internal fan that's probably slightly off kilter. You could try power cycling and or shaking it just a bit to see if the fan reseats properly; but as long as there isn't any performance degradation, and the noise isn't unbearable, I wouldn't worry too much.
