My Brother's Design for a Denebian Ship

Hello all!

Here's a cool story for you guys. When I was a wee trekkie once upon a time (age 12 or so) me and my little brother used to play Star Trek with custom lego ships and props, and have all sorts of away missions and pretend space battles. As we got older, these evolved into LARP style roleplay with more and more advanced props and replicas (usually Diamond Select or Playmates toys). My brother determined early on, however, that he didn't want to portray a human character. He asked if there were any planets in Star Trek with underdeveloped warp capable species which he could provide his own backstory for. We looked through my Star Trek Star Charts book, and found Deneb Kaitos V, homeworld of the Denebian race. From their, he created a whole culture and race of aliens from vague discriptions in the book, and with the advent of Memory Alpha and access to new information, he evolved the race futher. Earlier this evening, no doubt stricken by nostalgia, he drew this illustration of a 23rd century Denebian starship. I will post further illustrations should he choose to share them with me, but I thought this was too cool not to share.

Let me guess, it‘s a “wine bottle opener” class ship? :p

...is it that obvious? LOL

My brother claims he found a website explaining that if you are having trouble finding inspiration to draw a spaceship, just find something laying around the house and draw it as a spaceship. Turns out my brother had a wine bottle opener laying around, and decided it would be a cool spaceship design. Personally, I always thought wine bottle openers looked more like robots than spaceships, but oh well. :)

Quite honestly, it‘s a cool design nonetheless. And looking for inspiration in everyday objects is a smart thing to do when designing a spaceship. I certainly have done so myself in the past and tend to see spaceships in many objects.
