My BlackBerry Curve just survived the wash cycle OF DEATH!!!

Seriously. My phone is a tough guy. If I had gone through what my phone has, I would have PTSD. My phone is tougher than anyone I know.

A month ago, my phone was chewed on by my dog. There is a crack on the screen, and some pretty ugly scars on the plastic casing, but there is still full functionality.

Yesterday, after the end of a tough week at work, I started a load of laundry. I threw all my clothes into my washer, and decided to order a pizza.

But I couldn't find my phone.... or my wallet.

I looked all over the place, then it hit me like a brick.

My phone and wallet were in my pants pocket. In the washer.

I found my phone, soaking wet, just like my eyes as the horror sunk in. Would i have to fork out $600 for a new phone?

So I went into crisis mode. I took the battery out, and put both the battery and the phone under a fan for a couple of hours. A friend told me that putting the phone in a sealed ziplog bag of uncooked rice. The rice is supposed to absorb the moisture from your phone. So I did that, and left it overnight.

I just tested it now, and IT WORKS!

The screen looks a little funny, with blotches on the screen (it doesn't affect visibility at all but it looks a little weird) and the vibrate is a little duller. But other than that, the phone is 100% functional.

Oh, and there's a grain of rice rattling around inside my phone. Whatever.

I am so relieved that I don't need to go out and spend $600 on a new Curve.

My boss dropped her curve in the toilet. We did the same thing, took the battery out, left it to dry (admittedly in the server room). Still works.

My curve hasn't had that bad a life. The worse is probably being sucked on by my 17 month old daughter.

But electronics are like that. Unless there's a current running across them it won't die, providing you completely dry it out before putting the battery back in.

I have had horrible luck with phones in the last year and a half.

April of 08 I dropped my Razr and that was pretty much the death of it. Because my 2 year contract wasnt up I had to pay full price for a new one. I got a Sony Ericcson to replace it.

Few months later my sister and I later traded phones when it was time for her to get a new one. She got the Ericsson and I got a Pantech Duo with a QWERTY keyboard. I loved that phone.

March of this year I decided to do some laundry, I switch the pants I'm wearing so I could wash them, and sit down to watch my new Twilight DVD. About 10 minutes into the movie I reach over to pick up my phone and find its not there. Check my dresser in my room and its not there. Of course its in my pants pocket. In the wash. The Duo was water logged completely. I was shocked to find that it actually turned in about a week later though the screen was pretty warped looking.

But I ran to the phone store that day to pick up a new phone cause I can't live more than 5 minutes without one. I'm happy to say my Samsung Eternity is alive and well today and its under a 2 year insurance plan in case I ever do that again.

I was able to resurrect a Blackberry 8800 with pretty obvious water damage last month. The main board looked pretty bad but a good cleaning and a new battery got it working... replaced my RAZR with it.

A new curve with no plan is $600. I got mine for a lot less, too.

My old phone and i decided to go swimming in the ocean. Needless to say, it didn't survive.

My Curve 8330 seems pretty much indestructible, too. Best phone I've ever owned. I'm a Crackberry addict for life!

I once dropped my cell phone in the back alley while jumping out of my truck to open the gate. Under normal circumstances, I would park on the street out front. A day later, I realized that the phone was gone, but by that time I had forgotten that I was driving in the alley the day before.

I spent a good while searching everywhere for it, until I proceeded to put out garbage (after another day had passed) and noticed it, with its screen still lit, in the grass of my neighbor's yard directly across the alley.

The phone had been rained on for some time, and at that point it did not work properly. After sitting in a warm spot for a while, however, it fully recovered. I still use it today.

While I like tech gadgets, mostly pertaining to personal computing, I have never been fond of cell phone addiction. My cell phone is prepaid, seldom used, and worth a grand total of $50. Thus if it is scratched or destroyed, I have no vital cause for panic.
