My Bigotry Towards the Xenophobic Talarians: Episode, "Suddenly Human"

Let's assume that the Talarians begin firing on the Enterprise with their "X-Ray Lasers" and "Merculite Rockets." Would it have any effect on the Enterprise's shields?

Probably not.

Could the Enterprise destroy all the surrounding Talarian vessels with one photon torpedo each?

Very likely.

however the Admiral can go to the aliens and request a meeting and try diplomatically to get her grandson back

I'm sure the Talarians would let her visit Jono, but the fact is, he doesn't want to leave. Why should she get him back if he doesn't WANT to be gotten back?

My disdain is elevated by the perception that they don't even realize how comically outgunned they are...

So the Federation puts on the kid's gloves (no pun intended) when dealing with the Talarians - even though the Talarians have no issues whatsoever in escalating a diplomatic issue into an armed conflict.

The Talarians deserved a humiliating defeat.
By giving Jono some exposure to Federation culture and respecting his wishes to be returned, Jono may decide to return voluntarily to the people who respected his choice. He maybe more likely to adopt Enlightenment values than if the Federation had taken him back by force.

This is a bit...dramatic.

The whole thread is more than a little dramatic, hyperbolic, and ridiculous. I am constantly amazed at how seriously some people take Star Trek. You'd think I would simply expect it by now but it never fails to surprise me.

Every time I see this truncated topic title on the Forums page, I get the impression that it says "My Bigotry Toward the Xenomorph"

And that would be a way better topic for discussion. No insult to this topic...but admittedly, there would be very few topics that could compete with bigotry and systemic racism directed at Xenomorphs.

Carry on with your day.
