I found some of my old 3D files when I used to build stuff in Google SketchUp. These were originally intended for a Star Trek Online-era fancomic I intended to make. But semi-recent events caused me to abandon that idea and instead rewrite my stories and characters into an original universe I am still in the process of writing. Much more work, but will be worth it in the end.
In the meantime, here was what I had made during that time. First up is a basic stock-ship bridge, intended for a Centaur or Miranda-class (hence the turbolift dead aft). This would not be the hero ship, but rather the ship the characters start off on before the Borg attack at Vega (reference STO)
The idea was that I could get the camera shot I want and draw the characters into their place, while tracing over the 3D image to make it 2D to match the characters drawn on.
Upon getting their new ship, intended to be an upgraded Akira-class (Thunderchild, Armitage, and Alita upgrades, but original Akira hull just because I love it so much), we see a brand new bridge
There are clear influences from Voyager, like the Conn station and other wall sections. The Conn Officer only operates the panel in front and the two screens on either side. The panels on the wings, facing a pair of screens on either side of the Viewscreen, are the additional Tactical and Navigation stations. In normal operations, they do not need to be manned, but in emergency situations, they provide additional functionality, especially in combat.
Directly behind the Captain's Chair is the main Tactical station, manned by the Executive Officer (a large hulking Caitian who the Captain selected to be her right-hand against an Orion Mistress and her Gorn bodyguard. Seriously, Caitian vs. Gorn? That's a Wrestlemania Main Event right there).
In front of the Captain's Chair you may recognize the holographic communications panel, first seen in DS9 when hunting down Michael Eddington. I figured this would be standard equipment at the time, and this was made years before Discovery was ever a thing.
You can't tell from the Aft view, but there are four sit-down stations around the circumference. Operations and Systems toward the front, Engineering and Sciences toward the back. Propulsion and Auxilary Systems in the small stand-up sections along the back wall, with the Master Situation display dead aft.
Now, this wasn't my first plan for the bridge, this came after multiple re-designs. The original bridge idea was far more compact.
Rather than having the MSD on the back wall, you would have two different MSDs on either side of the viewscreen, as all officers faced forward. The display panels on the side wall also existed behind the two sit-down stations at the side, but those were just for display purposes, not really meant to be manned.
I did like this bridge idea, but... I was far more happier with the more detailed variant above.
You can already tell I love the aesthetic of the Enterprise-A era, as the other internals reflected that, like the corridor. Sickbay we only saw in the TMP-Wrath refit, but I imagined it would be about the same
I had another interesting idea for an Auxiliary Control Room. The idea behind Aux Control varies from blueprint to blueprint, some having a room the same size as the main bridge with all the same panels if not more. But I was keeping TOS in mind, where Aux Control had very few actual panels, meant to be manned by only a few crewmen. So in this case, the Captain and XO (or surviving equivalent of the two) could man the central station with Conn and Tactical, while other officers watch over Systems and Operations at the side panels.
And this is where we come to the pride of my 3D work on this project, Main Engineering
Again similar Warp Core to the Refit Constitution-class (just because I love the design so much), but adding the Plasma Coolant Tanks on either side, and having the horizontal feed connecting to an actual central structure, rather than just coming off the tube all awkward-like. Also note there is no vertical isolation door. It closes from either side with an indentation in the middle, to allow the plasma feed to still pass through while still providing a seal to protect the Engineering crew.
Looking at the overall structure, you can see another set of doors between the Warp Core and the "Pool Table" area, as another set of emergency protection when needed. Also an additional control/observation area in the deck above. There were so many potential awesome shots I could have gotten with this set.
If I can ever figure out how to properly work with Blender, I may remake these in a more visually impressive form, and actually get some better angles (as I no longer have SketchUp on this computer). Meanwhile, what do you think?
