my 12 Idea

I just watched GRAND TARINIO last night with Clint Eastwood. (very good film)...anyway..

I would remake the DOOMSDAY MACHINE, yeah I don't care if its been done before. Just remake DOOMSDAY with kick ass FX and a more modern story and they cast Eastwood as the aged Captain of the Constellation...hell, he could direct it and JJ can produce if it will get the dude into the movie.

Mr. Eastwood has GOO GOO international appeal. And I could see him in the role, and he'd knock it out of the ballpark...

Now...just keep your hands of my dog.

JJ..if you read this thread, here’s how you do it…

Teaser
Kirk and crew visiting RIGEL 7. A very ‘backward’ world with bunches of fun things to do there. Capt Kirk/McCoy get into a brawl with others and throw away scenes with Sulu-chekov..

CREDITS ROLL

USS Constellation, with Captain Decker (eastwood) enters system near RIGEL. Eastwood finds Doomsday machine and attacks. Is able to get a distress call out as battle starts to go badly.

Enterprise receives call, goes there, and finds Eastwood alone; the last survivor of the attack.

Movie pretty much follows outline of the episode with changes here and there to make it more hip and more meaty for Eastwood. Eastwood is the ‘villain’ of the movie when he takes control of the Enterprise to finish what he started…ect ect ect…

Yeah, I know, it’s a remake…retread…isn’t about exploration..blah blah blah…but it’s a homerun because no one in the real world (non trek fans) would care if it’s a remake. It would be a big hit and with all the tension between Decker-Spock-Kirk-McCoy (just remember the episode) it would be a great serious and fun movie…

Call me; you know my number JJ

I like your idea, it sounds interesting. I really don't want to see anymore remakes, but, this idea is pretty novel. Your logic with Eastwood is dead on, IMO.

As much as I love this idea, it's not much more than an episode, 45 minutes at most. You have to have more and a larger Villain than Decker. I'd honestly think this would be awesome for the first part of the film.

If it were up to me, I'd begins with than, but adds a bit of the Tholian Web into it and some new stuff (I just want to see the Tholians as a major Villain in Trek).

So, in my opinion. It would continue on that, just before Kirk and the Enterprise are able to destroy the Doomsday Machine, they are attacked by a group of Tholian (It could have been mentioned before, in a conversation between Kirk and Pike, that the Federation was fearing a Tholian threat).

The Tholians having learned about the Doomsday Machine some how and, get into a brief battle with the Enterprise, in which it traps the Enterprise into it's web. They leave the Enterprise behind and somehow find a way to control the Machine and leave.

The Enterprise escapes and, after Kirk and Spock convince Starfleet (with the help of Pike) are given the go ahead to go after the Tholians, as they fear the Tholians will use it as a weapon against the Federation.

The Enteprise (+ maybe a small Armada) make an incursion into Tholian space. The small armada face of against the Tholians, to destroy the Doomsday Machine.

Decker (who hasn't been killed yet, but was being held confined after falling into a depression and slightly going nuts), gets verbally b!tch slapped by Kirk, comes back to his senses and, with out alerting the rest of the Enterprise, Transports to a Federation ship that got abandoned during the battle.

He then pilots said ship into the Doomsday machine and destroys the vessel along with the Doomsday Machine and many surrounding Tholian ships.

With the job complete, the Enterprise and what's left of the Amrada warp away from the battle and back into Federation Space, to a hero's welcome.

And then, the Film should end with the Tholians, who have not only suffered an embarsement because of the loss of the Doomsday Machine but have also lost many lives in the battle and the destruction of the Planet Destroyer, wage war on the Federation. This would set up the next instalment nicely.

So yeah. As I said, I'd love to start of the film with a doomsday machine beginning, but I doubt you could stretch it out enough for it to be a full length film rather than an episode. So it would be cool if they did something like that for the rest of the film.

I like your suggestion!!! I think it would be pretty good!!!

They'll never do it, because everyone knows every Star Trek movie has to have "the most interesting/scary/frightening/compelling villain since Khan!"

Culling material from the original source material isn't a bad idea.

In my opinion, done right, the Tholians could be as good a Villain as the Borg were, before Voyager screwed them up. I mean, unlike any other really alien Villain in Star Trek, the Tholians are the, well, most Alien. They don't have the humanoid appearance, which is quite good and they appear to be really ruthless and differnt than any other Species we've seen so far.

If anything, I would absoutly kill to see them as the major Villains in the future of Star Trek.

"The Doomsday Machine" was one of the greatest episodes of the series, but it would be too similar to the Narada, which, if you think about it, is another type of 'doomsday machine'.

Nah..I don't see the similarity there at all. The Narada was not a rampaging robot ship, eating planets up. Of course, if we were to let Braga/Berman write it, Kirk and company might find a little alien inside of it that they could negotiate with...but thankfully, they are not writing it..

The new Doomsday machine would be really kick-ass and would have awesome FX behind it this time...I think its a winner with the tholian subplot suggested above...Tholians, if done right, could be a cool villain. If I were this new TREK franchise I would shy away from Klingons/Borg, which, IMO, have the "DORK" symbol all over them..

Tholians even sounds cool...Klingons sound like a hygene issue
