MW3

^^ Supposed to have been nerfed tonight along with the FMGs - Think I heard somewhere that they've made it a 4 shot kill, meaning you'll have to fire two bursts. Renders it practically useless if true.

Well, I don't know about that but there were still plenty of people with FMGs racking up the kills tonight, and my Type-95 was doing its usual business.

There's no way they'd make it a 2 burst kill at all ranges. Maybe they made it a 3 shot kill instead of 2 shot kill at close range, which I think was one of the problems with the thing. I'd love if they did that but also extended the one burst kill range. That's why I use the damned thing, to hit people at distance! I don't need it to act like a shotgun up close.

Had a couple of nice games today. MK14 + FMGs with all helicopter streaks (Attack Helicopter, AH-6 Overwatch, and Pavelow). Called in 2 sets of each on Seatown, went 45-0 in TDM (We still somehow only won 75-59)... Gotta love when nobody on the other team really wants to shoot down air support. I think I had 19 gun kills, and 27 support kills. That's gotta be my personal record for a COD round.

Then in a FFA I wanted to see how well the Super Soaker (I'm going to keep calling it that until it catches on dammit) w/ silencer and rapid fire served the hip-fire role that I had been the domain of Akimbo FMGs, went 30-2 and got a MOAB. That really is my most fun class, so long as nobody is using Dead Silence. Sleight of Hand, Hardline, SitRep Pro, Specialist package with Steady Aim/Scavenger/Dead Silence. Doesn't kill quite as fast as the FMGs I don't think, but silencer keeps pesky dots off enemy radars, and you can ADS to grab some more range in a pinch. Reload is just a touch slow as well.

I saw a Robert Bowling tweet that indicated that semtexes aren't going to be one hit kills on juggernauts anymore when you stick 'em. That might tempt me to put recon juggernaut back on. It's really easy to stick guys when they're moving at pant-shitting speed. Of course, I'm sure a SMAW will still laser beam juggs out of existence, but far fewer people run a class with that damned thing, so that probably won't be a big deal.

Can't see any difference with the FMGs. Used them against some irritating tvvat running around with a shotgun earlier. He ended up getting fooked up. FMGs appear to be just as powerful and just as deadly at close and medium range.

I think they made it have more recoil, and they tweaked the hip-spread again, it seems the reticule is larger. They're still pretty effective but when I was testing them I definitely was losing at close range more. Beating some chump with a shotgun doesn't mean much because shotguns blow in this game. I did get killed a lot by some dude with a shottie a few days ago, but I made my own shotgun class, and clearly the guy was just a superior player... you need multiple bursts to kill at pretty damned close range, they'd probably get owned generally by a single FMG hip-fire let alone akimbo.

Range-proficient shotguns are amongst the most powerful and deadly weapons in the game - one shot kill even from medium range. The only chance you have against them is firing from the hip which you obviously do with the akimbo weapons, hence FMGs being as powerful as they are, and firing from the hip will generally pwn any shotgun, range-proficient or otherwise.

Standard shotguns though, blow.

Played with the FMGs again tonight, I still don't see much of a difference. Played a couple of games on Dome and Carbon where I probably used them 90% of the time, just to test out whether or not I could see any difference, but generally they pwned shotguns, SMGs and assault rifles at close range, and unless they got the drop on you, medium range too.

Suspect that they'll end up coming back to them again, but doubt it'll be before the new year now.

I love the fixes they made in dealing with lag. Love, love, love!

Completely unplayable. Kept switching lobbies and couldn't find a single place I could play because lag was so bloody bad. Highlight of my night was going 2-5 on the last game. Low point was probably the 0-15 game I had on account of me dying every single time my screen froze up, which was pretty frequently.

I'm still not seeing this Range proficiency Shotgun plague that seems to haunt your nightmares. It's a ridiculous grind just to get to Range, whereas most of the other types of guns in the game have useful attachments and proficiencies pretty early on. If you do the extended mags extra pellets glitch, then you finally have a semi-competent shotgun... they were going to patch that glitch but the shotguns are so bad they put that plan on hold to ponder the situation. I would still take the super soaker for hipfire in close over the shotguns, and it's a no-brainer winner at longer range on account of shotgun pellets literally disappearing at like 12 meters.

The only place where my leveled Striker really shined was juggernaut hunting. I start off by tossing some C4 in their face, then run in point blank and empty all the pellets right into their fat bellies. I don't think any other class of gun can take out a juggernaut solo as fast as that. They go down quick.

I even went through the tedium myself with the Striker. With range and extended mags it's still pretty iffy getting one hit kills. REALLY close you can usually, but not always. At medium close it's usually 2-3. And I'm using Steady Aim to get the tighter spread. And I have really good aim. It's just not that good.

I went into Prestige #7... Trying to max out the M16 levels during this go-round. My god that's an awful gun. Can't hit anything at range with a full burst, can't put anyone down with a full burst up close. Just terrible. Worse than the Blops version even. I mean in MW2 the FAMAS was a bit better, but the M16 was perfectly competitive. In Blops the G11 is a thousand times better and in MW3 the Type 95 is a million times better.

Funnest game of the night, I was leveling up all the pistols at the tail end of my prestige in free for all. Was having a pretty putrid game with the Magnum. Like 15-16 with a guy at 25 kills or so... but some fool calls in his recon juggernaut and I manage to hijack it for a game winning killing spree. They removed the Semtex stick juggernaut insta-kill a day or two ago... it seemed to do barely any damage at all. The guy who lost his juggernaut was completely dejected in the postgame lobby.

^^

With juggers, I just switch to a SMAW class that I've got set up.

Shotguns - Range proficiency with extended mags = medium range rapeage.

I'm still plugging away at maxxing out the challenges around the FAD and the L118A. Love those guns.

Roasted a guy who was in a 2-player party on Hardhat and got a torrent of abuse for it afterwards. Eventually he claimed to have had a far superior game. Luckily he started mouthing off before the next game began so I could still check the previous game stats - which I was more than happy to refer him to. Both he, and his boyfriend, had finished negative. Massively negative.

Not a lot of people bother with a SMAW class. Tons of people running around with semtex though. I'd say you usually get your money's worth with a juggernaut. Whereas with a helicopter there's a good chance it'll be show down entering the map. I'm also starting to dig the little rocket wielding assault drone. Got a triple kill with one of its rockets today :)

I'm really curious though, do you actually use shotguns? Or is this based on getting killed by them? Sometimes I think something is overpowered until I actually try to use it. I'm just not seeing the shotguns thing at all.

I probably haven't done more than one or two rounds sniping. Maybe next prestige. It was petty much the last class I went with in MW2... though it ended up being a lot of fun there. Still, there's no Overgrown or Wasteland for sniping in this game. There's only cheesy headglitch nonsense. Like Mission. Downturn is the worst map in the game, but Mission is easily the worst map in the game that people actually vote to play. The broken spawn system rears its head worse than any other map. And the back corner with the long sight line to the other side with the two little buildings you can enter is just pure cheese.

^I can't speak for Angel, but usually my claims of something being overpowered come from getting killed by it. Nothing is too powerful until the opposition starts bitch-slapping you with it. ;)

EDIT TO ADD- Ugh, there's always something with this game. Lag was at a respectable enough level that I could play, so I got on for a bit tonight. Tonight, the PC was swamped with hackers. I think I tried 7 or 8 consecutive lobbies that were all having major hacker problems before I got off. A few aimbots, a few people where the guns were way, way, way overpowered, a few people who were glitching outside of the map and shooting back in. I reported as many of them as I could. Where does cheating get to be fun?

In hindsight, I'm starting to think that I should have spent my $60 on "Skyrim" instead.

My perception of shotties is based on both playing with them, and being on the receiving end of them.

I agree that until they're tooled up with attachments and proficiencies they're not much cop, but once you've got them then they're just incredibly cheap. Kills are easier to pick up than the UMPs or 1887s were on MW2.

I tend not to use them a lot though as I prefer ARs and sniping with the L118A.

Sniping maps - Seatown, Fallen, Mission are the main ones. Odd, I snipe on Mission but I don't use the head glitch thing. Don't see why you'd need to, there are plenty of legit sniping spots anyway.

Judging from that i'm kinda glad i play it on the 360, i.e. a nearly closed system. Since i got used to the controls over PC keyboards and mouse i don't really plan on going back (and certainly won't buy a new computer to be able to play modern games decently.. my 2,5 year old laptop nearly crapped itself when i tried to play BF3)

Only now did i have a few games with heavy lag that spoiled the game but so far i'm enjoying it and balancing issues aside i can't say i noticed any cheaters.

Interesting,

I've been pretty much getting "pwn'd" on this game thus far, fighting like hell just to keep a .60 k/d ration, and I decided to try something different. So right now, I'm in "run silent, run deep" mode, using Blind Eye, Assassin, and silencers on my weapons. So far it's made a big difference. I'm still getting beat up, but not as bad, and I'm even having a few decent games now and then. I'm not camping (too boring) but I am trying to be a little more careful and being mostly invisible seems to have helped me a lot.

Whatever works I guess. Oh and I've kind of started to have a little luck with bouncing bettys.

I tend to run 3 variant classes on my perks;

1) Blind Eye, Assassin & Stalker (general assault rifle class)
2) Blind Eye, Assassin & Marksman (Sniper class)
3) Extreme Conditioning, Quickdraw & Stalker (run around SMG class)

Must have been playing with some Xmas noobs last night. Actually had a few decent rounds, one of which was me going 16-3. That's about as good as it's ever going to get for me, so I might as well quit now.

That was probably the round when I got my first ever "triple kill". I just love it when people bunch up together out in the open when I have a predator missile. Of course it's not so much fun when you're on the receiving end and you have "Blind Eye" enabled, and your teammates run to you, thus drawing the missle your way. :klingon:

Well personally I'd say 31-10 is pretty frickin fantastic. :techman:

But trust me, my 16-3 was a VERY rare occurence, my overall k/d is setting at 0.65 now, and that's pretty representative of my true skill level. Everything just clicked for me in that particular round, including the aforementioned triple kill. I think it was a matter of me finding a lobby with some noobs. Once I got in there, I stayed in that group until I was done for the night.

My absolute dream is to get 8 other 360 players of the game and form a coordinated team that strategises every match as if it was a real military operation. I have a theory that if people were actually to play the game in this manner, other teams wouldn't stand a chance.

It's all about setting up a fortress and keeping within a strict range of the area. For team deathmatch and kill confirmed games, where moving around the map isn't a requirement to win (the opposing team can come to you), the team would look something likes this:

4 Sniper players to cover the front, rear and sides
2 Scout players to uncover enemy locations and perform sneak attacks
2 Assault players to build up killstreak rewards and get the kills for those who escape the sniper players
1 Demolition player to shoot down killstreak rewards and perform splash attacks on groups of the opposing team

I'm now 2nd prestige with 33% accuracy and a 1.34 K/D ratio.

Domination is fairly straight forward with a full team as well.

We just split into two groups of three and usually capture both the nearest and middle flags right at the start of the game. From there three people defending each flag is more than enough. Never try for the third flag unless we have to. Means we always have a good idea of where the enemy is spawning and what likely routes they'll be taking towards our flags.
