MW3

Not really a good idea i believe.. i'm currently at rank 30 but sometimes i get creamed by players below in rank for the n-th time in a row.

Having a higher rank either means you had the game longer and so more time to accumulate points or you really are better but you can't generalize that.

I think a hit/kill ratio or any other stat related element that shows how well you do on average is better for matchmaking (and with over 6 million players worldwide at any time there's bound to be some people around who are suck as much as i do so i'd like to play them and see who's the biggest sucker :p)

I'd rather de-emphasize the kill/death ratio completely rather than base matchmaking on it. Too many people worry about their KDR as it is.

My K/D is 1.66 at the moment, and the only reason I care about it is because me and a few friends have a running battle with each other to see who can get the best one. My Black Ops K/D is 2.29, and I'm hoping to get my MW3 one to about the same standard.

i got promoted though to somewhere around Captain in MW2 solely off of playing more DOM, DEM, CTF and SAB matches than TDM and actually trying to achieve objectives and not treating it as TDM with more points.

so, yeah, rank doesn't automatically equal skills. I was shit for the first 6 months I was playing MW2 and relied on achieving objectives and shooting down air support to get promoted.

played a little more tonight. Continue to regress. If it gets much worse, I can see myself throwing in the towel as the fun factor is rapidly dwindling as being a target dummy just isn't much fun.

Played in a couple of games earlier where one guy on the opposition team was ripping our team a new one. Over 50 kills in consecutive games. Had a chat with him in the game lobby after the second one, apparently he was on a 2Mbs connection. A quick straw poll of the others in the lobby with mics confirmed that his was the worst connection in there. It didn't come as any great surprise to him, apparently some of his mates have taken to rigging their connections so that they don't have to host games because the disadvantage is that great.

As if that weren't bad enough, I then had the loading screen freeze up my machine, had to pull the plug out to reset it. Upon reloading I found out that tonight's progress had been completely wiped out.

I'm afraid that MW3 makes World at War look like Pulitzer material. Fooking awful game.

 I thought the host had a big ADVANTAGE? :wtf:

Nope, unless you got a really low latency connection - as host you are at a disadvantage as I learnt earlier when it took just under a quarter of a second for a bullet to register!

Now that runs counter to everything I've heard about MW (and online gaming in general) from day one. But I honestly don't know myself, just shocked to hear just the opposite of what I've been told for years now.

some times i've been host on MW2 and it's been an advantage (leading to me being accused of cheating twice) and a lot of times it's made no damn difference at all to me, but everyone else has been lagging bad. and once it led to me being the only player capable of moving so i killed all five opposition players and got the 'kill the entire team without dying' challenge. thankfully, it was near the end of a game.

Ordinarily it's usually an advantage, certainly was in cod4 and mw2 for the most part. BlOps too. They've screwed up the lag comp on this one though, big time.

I hosted earlier, t'was ridiculous. Used the L118A and it must have taken every shot a good half second to register.

If you're not the host and everyone else is lagging then it disconnects you and says "error lost connection to host". This is a new thing that's really quite annoying because none of what you've achieved in the disconnected game count towards your stats, rewards, exp, etc.

The damned lost connection to host always seems to happen when I'm 14-0 with my specialist bonus kicked in and looking good for a MOAB. Very annoying.

The lag compensation thing is ridiculous as well. Don't want host advantage? Pull a Battle.net and host all the games yourself Activision. Oh wait? You're too fucking cheap? Then don't take it out on me and my good internet connection.

My K/D ratio is now 1.08 and I'm in the top 40,000 players for accuracy!

I play a very tactical game that consists of patience and what many players class as "camping". Isn't camping the duty of any sniper? Sure, I can quickscope to a degree and no-scope but I don't choose to play this way because I think its a crappy method of playing the game and totally unrealistic. Whilst MW3 isn't exactly realistic, I like to plan my tactics of play similar to real war tactics because it's a test of one's resourcefulenss.

I would say as much as 40% of MW3 players get way too personal. As a sniper, I find that these players will go out of their way to track you down and get the kill, even if it means them getting killed repeatedly by me or other players from my team. It's even the tactics that they employ to get such a kill that I find mindboggling. They will use all their grenades, spray bullets like mad (destroying their accuracy stat) and even aggressively charge in looking to get a knife kill. The difference between them and me is that I don't have any personal vendettas during play and if I have a shot on somebody I'll take it - regardless of who the player is. All I care about is making sure my team wins and that I have more kills than deaths. Anything else during a game is a bonus and I don't go out of my way to prevent other players from doing something like getting a high kill streak, because most of the killstreak rewards don't affect me because I'm using blind eye and assassin!

i on the other hand, get very vendetta-ish. especially if some fucker kills me 5 times in the same area.

then i get my head right and go elsewhere.

It's easy to get worked up, I have done many times myself! The key to getting better at competitive video games is to learn to control your emotions - so to speak (vulcanism perhaps?). If you're calm and collected then you will usually prevail in a head on battle with somebody.

Focus is the difference between a headshot and a player going into last stand and getting a lucky shot with their pistol!

I'll admit that hunting campers down is a bit of a game to me.... if I know where someone is, know that he's not moving, and know how to get there, I will do everything in my power to reach that location and drive him from that spot. I might die 10 times, but on #11, that bastard is mine!

i often like to toss in semtex or flash-bangs at them and then shoot them if i didn't kill them out-right.

that or using the AT4...

did that on Skidrow once, some bastard was camping the warehouse with the little hole that looks along the tunnel, got me four times as i tried creeping along and firing at him. so i switched to my mini-Uzi/AT4 class with marathon/lightweight/ninja, ran around the map the long way, fired the AT4 in the window and the rocket hit his claymore at the top of the stairs and blew him away.

same bugger was there again later, so i did it again. i think he learned that time.

You know, I know this is something that is not new to MW3, but it's happened to me enough the last couple of days that I have to vent a little. How ridiculous is it that somebody can run through a hail of bullets from across the room and stab you? When you're aiming your gun and somebody hits you with a bullet, it affects your aim. But apparently when you're running with a knife, you're invulnerable.
