MW3

I'm hooked on the MP progression (again). Hate - or at least heartily dislike - most of the maps but enjoying it nonetheless.

I wonder maybe if my impression of the game being the same as before has any direct correlation to my skill (or lack thereof) at playing the game? Since I suck and die a lot anyway, maybe these issues seem transparent to me?

How well you're doing at a game always informs your opinion in some respect. It's impossible to be "completely objective", although you can get close - good game journalists for example manage to do just that.

Yeah but it's almost the opposite effect in a way. I suck at it, I"ve always sucked at it, so some of these problems that others are seeing seem like SOP to me. And maybe it's aggravating the other users more because they're most likely a lot better than me.

i dunno, i used to be really shit at MW2, now i'd say i'm getting decent, but i tell yah, all the sniping shit and camping and rushing annoys the fuck out of me and always did.

maybe it's cuz i started out on Quake 2 and 3, but i expect people to run and gun and not camp and not be a cheap fucker rushing with marathon and some bullet hose.

Well I have ALWAYS hated snipers, it just seems like a chickenshit way to play the game. BUT that being said, I recognize that to be a good sniper it takes some skill so it's hard to criticize people who develop that skill.

As far as camping, that is a REALLY BORING way to play so I figure if that's what they want to do, let them knock themselves out. Just be careful going around corners.

In general, I've always been a run-and-gunner. Normally I've been pretty lousy, but I've done much better with MW3.... I rack up a ton of deaths, but I'm normally able to get a ton of kills too. The thing for me is that this has only worked on FFA. In team death match, I tend to get gunned down far more easily and don't get a ton of kills with run-and-gunning, which I think has something to do with the fact that I'm hesitant to shoot the first thing I see. Where I've found my most TDM success is a camper/ R&G hybrid- I can't stand to sit still for very long, but if I keep an eye on what my team's doing, I can usually set up camp in one area, get some kills, and move to another area.

there is nothing more satisfying than flanking a sniper and filling him full of lead. except possibly approaching from their 6 and then headshotting them. or knifing them.

If i get 8 kills a round then that's a very very very good round for me. LOL

But i'm enjoying the spaz, with silencer and no kick perk....even though it's supposed to loses some distance i can still get a good kill from quite a distance.

Same here. I think I had an 11-11 round or maybe 11-13 or something like that last night and I felt like I'd just won the lottery last night.

One of the depressing things of this game for me is that I realize that so much of the game is unavailable to me because I just can't put killstreaks together. I now use Hardline and still the best I've ever gotten in MW3 is the Predator missiles a few times. All the other killstreak rewards might as well not even exist for me. :(

I do pretty well at MW3, which is strange because I was pretty average at MW2. Initially I had an average K/D ratio in MW3, but I've improved quite a lot since I became a sniper and worked out the best spots on the map from which to snipe.

I think my game best so far is 26-2 and the majority of my games have had more kills than deaths. My K/D ratio is nearly into positive territory which will be a real achievement when there are thousands of people online who have skills on par with professional gamers!

ETA: For anyone struggling, I recommend you play as a sniper

Perk 1: Blind Eye
Perk 2: Assassin
Perk 3: Marksman

Choose any sniper rifle you want, I use the Barrett 50.cal but it's really up to you. The stats of the sniper rifles are only meaningful in the context of how an individual plays the game. They are all capable of killing in one shot and all of them have the same attachments.

For secondary I highly recommend you use one of the machine pistols. I use the Skorpion with the silencer attachment because it allows me to remain hidden on the map if I have to use it. I can't no-scope very well so I use this weapon as more of an insurance policy in case I fail to knife an opponent in close range.

Equipment is down to you, but I recommend either the bouncing betty or the claymore because they ensure that you are protected from behind when in a sniping position. Most of your opponents will trigger it if they come looking for you, unless they have the Sitrep equipped (which is rare).

The benefit of this setup for a sniper is that you cannot be detected by automated killstreaks, seen on the minimap or seen by thermal scopes. I recommend that you choose Support killstreaks to begin with until you are confident that you can survive for long enough to accumulate Assault killstreaks. My personal killstreak rewards are setup as follows...

4: Care Package
5: Predator Missile
9: Reaper

The Predator Missile allows you to not only get at least one kill 80% of the time, but it also allows you to see the current location of all enemies of the map. If you have memorised the map's layout, this is a very useful tactical killstreak too. I don't like Strafe Run because it's essentially a Precision Air Strike with slightly more coverage, the AH6 Overwatch is designed for close range players and as a sniper you don't want to be running into groups of enemies!

The best tactic, although it's taboo for FPS gamers is to camp. Plain and simple, find a position that gives a lot of cover and wait until the enemies start flooding into your line of sight. I see no problem with doing this because it's exactly what a sniper is meant to do. You are playing tactical and waiting for the opportunity to get kills. Don't just run around the map, because you'll find yourself getting killed all the time. The majority of players go for close range and rush into the enemies at the start of a game and unless you are good at playing this style, the enemies will get the better of you.

Try to open cover because there are a lot of stealth bombers in this game (that's one of the major flaws about the Support killstreak) and they will usually get you unless you have something over your head.

Well, Predator is all you really need. That is, put on UAV, Care Package, and Predator. The beauty of the Care Package is that sooner or later you'll get all of the high end kill streaks (well, short of the MOAB of course).

Or you can go Support Package, and there are some decent ones in there. Stealth Bomber, Osprey Airdrop (though this one has a tendency to get shot down since it takes forever to do the drop). Play support in a game type like Domination so you have time to build up that point streak.

Personal favorite class so far:

Type 95 - 2 Attachments - Red Dot + Silencer
FMG Akimbo
Blind Eye
Assassin
SitRep Pro (bitch to unlock, and wear some $&#*ing headphones! Maybe sub in dead silence since that's useful without having to do ridiculous challenges, but it unlocks much later)
Then Specialist killstreak, something like sleight of hand->dead silence->scavenger.

Also, new patch seems to be breaking things on 360, wasn't getting final killcams, and my Elite upload slots got slashed from 24 for premium to the default 8, and it wouldn't let me upload my clip. Grrrr.

^Yoda had the same advice I was going to give- go with the care package. I have the care package on every one of my classes because 99 times out of 100 I won't get anything beyond that, but the care package gives you the possibility of getting something real nice, even things you haven't unlocked yet! Just the other day, I probably got 7 or 8 kills off of 3 care packages because I got 2 IMS' and an attack helicopter.

I love doing this too! If I know someone is camping and not moving at all, I will go after them until I get them. I don't care if they kill me 5 or 6 times in a row, I will eventually break through and get them. Might be why my K : D has never been great.

Well that's good advice guys, I'm going to have to switch to the care package for my kill streak reward. THX

Sniping, per se, isn't the problem, it's c**ts who run around quick/no scoping.

I've found that quick scoping is no match for dual wield FMGs in MW3. Unlucky!

Nice tip about the care package thing, seeing as i'm never going to get killstreaks into double figures and so wont get to see some of those bigger killstreak ones.

Cheers.
