MW3

7 1/2 hours and still not finished.......some of the missions have just been epic....its certainly got that whole movie blockbuster feel to it.......brilliant stuff.

I'm actually looking forward to running through on easy to mop up those intel's and steam achievements.

There are rumours that because of the way the maps have been designed, there's nothing they can do about the respawn issues.

If that's true, it's game over, bar replacing all of the maps and starting from scratch.

Personally, I wouldn't care if they did that. At this point I'm got my fingers crossed that talk of DLC featuring classic CoD4 and MW2 maps is true. I'd certainly be looking more forward to those maps than new ones by the people who've designed the current raft in MW3.

Well it is Activision so you never know!

Seriously though I wouldn't mind if they just re-released all of the cod4 maps. Best maps from any cod game, by miles.

I see what you guys mean about the spawning issues.... I have been spawn-killed or 3-steps-away-from-spawn-killed so many times, it's ridiculous! Another "issue" I'm running into is the insane number of divers, bunny-hoppers, and noob-tubers there are in this game, at least in the PC realm. I mean, they've always been around, but never as prevelant as they've been in MW3. So obnoxious.

I can't see noob tubers as being a problem on any platform. I mean, in MW3 pretty much you need a direct hit to score a kill. In MW2 there was a perk to make explosions more powerful, in MW3 instead there is a perk to lower damage you take. Also in MW2 you could replenish with One Man Army or Scavenger, giving you an infinite supply to spam with. Much easier to just shoot a guy in MW3.

There are still things about the multi that bug me. Spawns, hit detection, lag (noticeably worse than MW2 in those areas). The maps still kind of suck, but I've warmed to some of them. Downturn is probably the worst map in any COD game ever though. The biggest problem with the map design is that there are just way too many places to 'head glitch'. Why the hell do you put so much neck high cover into a game that doesn't handle it well at all?

Best weapons I think are the Type 95 for ARs, with an honorable mention to the ACR 6.8, and for the SMGs I like the MP7 with honorable mentions to the UMP45 and the one that looks like a super soaker (but really it's just a not as good MP7 that unlocks way earlier).

Another thing that drives me nuts is the sheer number of challenges I always seem to be finishing. I'm trying to soundwhore people with sitrep pro... but check out how much that stupid screamy noise plus guitar riff plays in this clip. (Ok, and I'm using this as a test case for the YouTube integration in COD Elite):

I would really love to be able to turn that damned sound off.

Well that was a fantastic rollercoaster of a game.....10 hours on vet....and i see when the credits rolled that Paul Haggis of James Bond CR fame was involved in the writting of the game....so thats explain why its was so Bond like at times.....and some voice work by Bruce Greenwood of Star Trek.

Now to mop up those steam cheevos and intels.:techman:

They made 'dolphin diving' impossible, but you can still drop-shot. It's semantics on IW's part as drop-shotting is almost exactly the same as dolphin diving anyway.

Spawning - really p1sses me off as it goes from one extreme to the other - you get spawn-killed, unless there's a chance of you saving a flag that you just got killed on, then it spawns you at the opposite end of the map. Thanks.

Noob tube - I only use this to smoke out campers. It's noticably nerfed, but nowhere near as much as they claim.

Best AR - Type 95 + Rapid Fire or FAD with practically anything!

Also, special mention for the dual-wield FMGs. Ordinarily I hate dual wield, but, gotta say, dual FMGs are awesome to blowing the fook out of those irritating tvvats who insist on running around with a shotgun for the whole game.

Re Downturn - Yeah, can definitely understand that argument. Most seem to gravitate between Downturn and Interchange as the worst maps of all time on CoD - hard to disagree.

The spawn system is truly horrific,

What do you feel is wrong with it?

Another "issue" I'm running into is the insane number of divers, bunny-hoppers, and noob-tubers.

Divers and bunny hoppers?

i thought they made drop-shotting impossible?

Drop shotting?

The biggest problem with the map design is that there are just way too many places to 'head glitch'. Why the hell do you put so much neck high cover into a game that doesn't handle it well at all?

Head glitch?

They made 'dolphin diving' impossible, .

Dolphin diving?

I feel like I'm suddenly speaking a different language. I've played all versions of COD online and I have no clue what all these terms are.

^The spawn issues (at least in my experience) have to do people being spawned in really bad places.... such as next to the enemy. I've experienced a lot more spawn deaths in this game than I ever did in the other two games. The most "interesting" one I've had yet happened today- I was spawned directly in the middle of an already active airstrike. Suffice to say, that was a short life.

Bunny hopping (or halo hopping) is when players start jumping in an effort to make themselves harder to hit. Drop shooting (what I called diving) is when people fall to the ground the moment they see an opposing player. Dolphin diving (I had to look this one up) is a "glitch" in some shooters where someone jumps into the air and then goes prone while still in the air. Apparently, it really screws with hit detection.

I've had that happen to me too with a spawn . . . in the previous versions of MW. So that doesn't seem to be something new to MW3. The hoping and dropping has been with us since the beginning, so again I'm not sure why people feel this is worse on MW3. That being said, yeah the jump button should have been disabled long ago.

I haven't come across the Dolphin diving yet. Now THAT would be annoying.

There's always been spawning, hopping, and diving, but it seems like they are much more prevelant this go through (at least, in my encounters). The ability to dolphin dive has been eliminated in a lot of shooters, and in cases where the game is released with that ability, it's usually been patched out pretty quickly. I'm pretty sure you can't do it in MW3.

The maps seem a bit more chaotic this time around, but so far it doesn't feel that much different to me. I sucked before and I suck this time around.

Prone - even bf3 added it this time around.

Spawning - all cod games have suffered with this to a degree but mw3's spawning is truly horrific even taking this into account. The number of times you respawn exactly where you just died only to die again, or directly into the middle of an airstrike, or right in front of an opposing player, is utterly ridiculous.

Dolphin diving - a problem on blops but the ability's been removed in mw3. Halo jumping has always been a problem. Can't really remove that you just have to use steady aim and fire from the hip.

I'm not seeing hopping as much of a problem. There's some kind of movement penalty when you hop so it's not like in some games where you're zipping around full speed bouncing around. I am guilty of jumping while rounding a corner sometimes though, but I think that's fair game, and i'm not sure it actually helps me.

As for spawns, earlier tonight on Interchange. Mind you this is a huge map, and it's FFA so there's like 6 players total in the game. Yet somehow this happens. A lot:

I suck, therefore I die a lot, therefore I respawn a lot. But I've yet to encounter these spawning problems being alluded to here. For me, it seems to work exactly the same as past versions.

I saw some comments on another board about people complaining about getting shot from behind, lag, etc, etc,. And I'm was thinking, well DUH, that's Modern Warfare and it's been that way from day one for me. Welcome to the party.

Other than not being able to really get a feel for the flow of the battle on any given map, it just seems like more of the same to me. I'm just not seeing it as "unplayable" at all.
