MW3

Got it last night.

Haven't touched SP campaign yet, straight into MP.

So far, so good.

Like the prestige shop - I had 4 tokens already waiting for me when I went in, from prestiging in the previous 4 games. Nice touch, along with the 4 symbols on your tags, each a prestige symbol from the previous 4.

That game seriously has some jaw droppingly awesome graphics. I think my poor computer would DIE if I tried playing it though.

Got it yesterday. Played the campaign up to like the 3rd level. Typical COD, it's great. My only complaint about it is that it doesn't seem really at all different from MW2. Which, really isn't much of a complaint since I LOVED MW2, but that fact did make it such that it wasn't as addictive as I thought it would be.

Well for starters, I'll just say that I don't play multiplayer. Just don't find it fun at all.

That said, this is easily the best Call of Duty SP campaign since the first Modern Warfare. The controls are as tight as they've ever been. The level design is WAY better than Black Ops, which I thought was a mess. The graphics were top notch, although I think Battlefield 3 was better there.

The story was also told much better than in MW2 and with nowhere near the clumsiness and plot holes of Black Ops. My only complaint is that there may be TOO many jumps between characters. Price and Yuri seem to get most of the focus whereas Frost isn't really developed much. Scenes such as the vacationing family seem sort of tacked on in attempts to be shocking that aren't really necessary.

Have got to say that nobody does over-the-top action like Infinity Ward. It's very action-movie oriented and outlandish at times, yet always visually impressive. However, in my current frame of mind, I prefer the more grounded realistic approach of Battlefield 3 and the recent Medal of Honor. those titles had outlandish elements as well, but they had a reality that, for me, Call of Duty sometimes lacks. I mean compare the recent CoD franchise to it's origins as a fairly realistic WWII shooter.

But overall, I'm very pleased. MW3 was much better than I was anticipating after the let-down of Black Ops and the reviews which seem to, for the most part, ignore the SP campaign in favor of the MP aspect. That said, having beat the SP, it's getting traded towards Skyrim on Friday.:techman:

Agreed. It's ironic that BF3 feels more like actual modern warfare than Modern Warfare...
Also it doesn't have any characters with ridicoulously thick Plot Armor. Yes, I'm looking at you, Cpt. Price. Not even a cat has as many lives as you seem to have.

The campaign was just tiresome after the 3 hours or so I put into it. Even the "shocking moments" aren't so shocking anymore given that it seems so old hat now.

Not really sure about the MP, but switching from BF3 to MW3 is a huge shock in terms of map size.

Got it on Tuesday for PC. I like it so far. The campaign didn't suck me in like the last one did, but fortunately it was short enough that it didn't really need to. Jumped straight into multiplayer.... I'm figuring out that I'm a huge liability to my team in Team Deathmatch, but if you put me in a position to shoot anything that moves and I'm actually doing surprisingly well- far better than I was doing in MW or MW2! I rack up a lot of death (kill:death ratio is hanging out around 0.66, though it certainly isn't helped by the really bad rounds of trying to get the challenges involving the attached grenade launcher and attached shotgun), but I'm generally able to get enough kills to balance it out.

Someone's pulled apart the code on the PC version disc. There are supposedly references there to loading screens for Crossfire, Crash, Overgrown and Strike from CoD4 and Highrise from MW2. Looks like 'classic maps' will at least partially form the basis of the ongoing DLC.

On the one hand, great, love those maps and hopefully the more the better. On the other, I've already paid for Crash, Overgrown and Strike twice......

I really can't see them bringing back those maps that would be on their third go-round. I would hope that they were just in there for early test builds and they just never cleared them out completely.

Playing this on Vet and i have to say its awesome, the back of the truck with the mounted machine gun on the village level was a pain but i eventually got them all and moved on....really enjoying it on this setting.

A lot of the maps in MW3 are samey/samey for me. Wouldn't be the end of the world if they imported those maps. They'd at least offer something different.

Although I do agree, wheeling them out again?!

Nothing new there though - IW have a penchant for re-using their old assets, Chinatown on CoD4 was Carantan from CoD2, Wasteland on MW2 was in one of the earlier games as well. We've already had the 'classic' maps imported into MW2, really wouldn't surprise me if they're trotted out again.

So far only playing the SP on XBox and am near the end of the Hamburg level.. it's the same balls to the wall type action of all Modern Warfare games and i love it.

It may get a bit repetetive at times (the Favela mission from MW2 and the Africa mission are quite similar) but since it's so much fun i don't mind it that much.

The scope is fantastic though.. loved the early New York missions and their scope and fast paced action and story.

I even bought a 3 month Live subscription to test it out and i haven't played online for years! Fully prepared to get my butt kicked by some 16 year old

We're finding this almost completely unplayable at the moment.

The spawn system is truly horrific, and how this didn't come up as an issue in private testing is beyond belief. Lag compensation - we host, it says 4 bars for us all, yet we encounter ridiculous lag, which the other team don't seem to share. Que instant butt-fooking for us. The maps - there are a couple that I really like - Resistance, Seatown, but the majority are just so incredibly poorly designed.

I think it's fairly obvious from this game that IW are now IW in name only. In so far as taking the franchise forward is concerned then IW and Sledgehammer clearly aren't up to it.

West and Zampella must be pi$$ing their pants.

I gotta agree that the multi is pretty disappointing. The spawns are awful. The sound is straight up broken. The maps are littered with cheap spots to make your head one pixel big while having a huge field of vision. There are so many damned cars and barrels to randomly explode and kill you... I'm one prestige in, level 63 or so, I'm getting to the point where I'm not convinced it's going to get any better. It feels worse than Blops, which I eventually warmed up to...

I am enjoying the single player though. That part of the game is so far ahead of Blops it isn't even funny. Yes, it is basically just more MW2, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'm taking it slowly there, making sure I have all the intel before moving on to the next mission. Hopefully the spec ops and horde mode stuff is pretty good, if this game is going to have real staying power it might have to be there given how frustrated I am with the competitive multiplayer.

I just want to say for the record that the shotgun attachment is the worst thing to happen in any game, ever. Trying to get all the acheivements on the M14, and that stupid P.O.S. is killing my already less-than-impressive K: D ratio.

It's an oddity isn't it.

When you look at the quality of the games, and then how many units they sell it's a complete contradiction;

MW1 > MW2 > MW3

Yet in terms of sales

MW3 > MW2 > MW1

They seriously need to fix the spawning/hit detection issues with MW3 if it's to have any chance of remaining relevant post-Christmas.

They also sold 600k Elite subs. There's no danger of the game dying this time around... but I basically can't stand the MP at this point. The maps are just way too small.
