Must I put away ALL my childish things? (grown-up Calvin & Hobbes)

Well, in Paul's defense, there is a huge difference between childish and childlike behaviors.

I know that C&H are fictional, but I would rather he have the life in the first link. The last link makes me sad. :(

Yes, because they pumped him full of ritalin and drugged the vigor, creativity and imagination right out of him. Like parents do to their kids by the millions today. It's by far the most accurate projection of the strip into the present.

This last cartoon was the one I didn't save down.
Let's hear it for childish things!

What does it mean to "grow up" anyway, other than to attain physical maturity? I hear "grow up" thrown around a lot as a sort nebulous scold. Why is it wrong to still enjoy things you enjoyed in your childhood? Must adulthood be stuffy and boring?

^ No, but it's supposed to be responsible. Sadly, many people think responsible=stuffy, and they are wrong about that.

Sorry I immediately thought of Being Human when I read that title. A hapless hospital minister is confronted by some very nasty vampires and when exhorted by one of the heroes (a werewolf) to say something religious, comes out with the 1Cor 13:11 speech, which was both funny and affecting. And worked much to everyone's surprise.

back on topic. As you were.

there's a conversation going on www.bloodforthebaron.com 's forums about what 'the better half' thinks of you collecting GI Joes and Action Force toys. most of the 'better halfs' think it's better the men be collecting their toy soldiers than out doing drugs, getting drunk or being an international terrorist.

it is, afterall, pretty harmless...

i keep saying 'i've grown old, but not grown up and never intend to.'

^Good philosophy. What's the point of being a grown up if you can't buy all those cool toys you couldn't afford when you were younger?

As my father in law used to say - "Never ask a man the cost of his mistress" when he was referring to his sailboat.

I just reread my Complete Calvin & Hobbes recently. Love it love it love it love it. I intend to keep on loving it well into my dotage!

And it's great when using when you can't get to the weight room! :D

I heard that Calvin was killed in Iraq and is buried next to the Beaver in Arlington Cemetary. Not sure what happened to the tiger, though.

I heard he was the one that attacked Roy in Las Vegas.

St Paul should always be read in conjunction with the rest of scripture. In this case matthew 18:3. ;)
