Must I put away ALL my childish things? (grown-up Calvin & Hobbes)

Well, in Paul's defense, there is a huge difference between childish and childlike behaviors.

I know that C&H are fictional, but I would rather he have the life in the first link. The last link makes me sad. :(

Yes, because they pumped him full of ritalin and drugged the vigor, creativity and imagination right out of him. Like parents do to their kids by the millions today. It's by far the most accurate projection of the strip into the present.

As someone who is dealing with an adult diagnosis of ADHD in my husband right now, can I just say that this impression of ADHD medication is incorrect. It may have been like that once but it isn't now. Medication for ADHD doesn't take away your creativity - it allows you the ability to focus on it for longer - to follow a project through to completion.

I find that C&H cartoon heart-breaking, because this is how people view ADHD children and they can be so much more.

yeah..
there are times you have to be the adult.
but it makes being an adult an awful like easier if you can still find delight in child like things.

Why should you ever give up anything you enjoy as long as it isn't hurting anyone? Who cares if it is childish? Just because you're a grown up doesn't mean you have to sit around all day watching C-Span or something..
Exactly.

If someone wants to play with toys, fine. If they want to collect action figures, fine. So long as they keep their priorities in life straight, and they're not hurting people then fuck it leave 'em be.

Amen.

Whoever said that you have to put away the things that you enjoyed as a child when you grow up? If your priorities are straight, I say do whatever you enjoy. Life's to damned short to give in to what other people think.
