MUSICAL SCORE?

A while back I remember coming across a link to a website where someone had created a concept of what a reimagined trek theme would sound like. That was months ago and I don't know who it was now, but it sounded like a good concept. I'm sure that even though they will use the original theme, it will be more dramatic and probably only resemble what we are used to.

There was a thread some months ago discussing a reinterpretation of the TOS theme as composed by Mike Verta - http://www.mikeverta.com/ I do hope Giacchiano devises something as grandiose and majestic!

See the listing under Latest News:
06/26/08 - Mike's version of the Star Trek Original Theme! After his recent visit to ILM - where he saw Star Trek 11 being worked on - he decided to try a modern version of the original theme as a personal project. In rare form, he shares his sketch!

Michael Giacchiano is a very good composer. I am looking forward to hearing his composition. I have to admit I am a fan of his. The Incredibles was a fantastic score!

He did a good job retaining the flavour of the original in Speed Racer, so I expect, if it was asked of him, that the same will apply here.

I'm very excited to hear what Giacchiano will come up with. I really hope there is at least a taste of the score in trailer. I feel like there kind of has to be.

While your on Mike's site check out the Batman Simulator ride video also, very cool.

Erich Kunzel does an excellent rendition of the classic theme on his album "Symphonic Star Trek" (with the Prague Orchestra, IIRC). It's a lot less heavy on the extra flourishes and lets the melody carry the piece the way it should.

The piece takes three passes at it. First iteration is a "lounge" version, kinda loose and friendly in a cool way. The second is closest to the Courage orchestration from the 60s, with wind instruments and bongos. It's a bit faster paced, of course, and builds for the last go-around.

It's that third itiration that will literally have you crying. He turns the full power of the violin section loose on the melody and it's as if a chorus of angels is singing it.

I know that version too. It is great.
On the CD I have it from it says that John Williams conducted the Boston Pops to play that version.
