Musical score/notation - HELP!

I've been trying to convert a guitar piece from TAB to proper musical notation - but as I can't read/write music I obviously need a bit of help. So far, I've used a freeware TAB editor to input the notes - it automatically generates a rudimentary score based on the TAB, and you can play the music back to ensure it sounds OK.

So far, so good - BUT....I just know I've got it wrong somewhere. I used a BPM tempo and 8th notes for the majority of the piece - which sounds fine when played back - but have no idea if that's the correct way to do it. Also - how should it be formatted in terms of bars, etc? There are sections with pauses - I really fudged those bad.... And many more mistakes I just know I've made.....

So - if any of you fine people don't mind picking it apart and giving me the benefit of your musical wisdom, that'd be great. And I thank you in advance.

Here's the score/TAB notation:

I have Guitar Pro, which converts tabs to sheet music fairly easily. I'll see what I can do.

Is the program you downloaded PowerTab? I think Guitar Pro can export to that format... it can import PowerTab files, I know that much.

Edit: actually, could you send me that file? Since you already typed out the tabs I don't see why I should re-type them. Either post a link to it here or e-mail it to me at thekommander(at)hotmail(dot)com

Ok, that one worked. I'll see what I can do.

Guitar Pro won't let me save things or export them to PowerTab format. I think PowerTab can import guitar Pro files. I don't know for sure, I don't have PowerTab.

I found the big problem: you had the tempo off just a bit. You have it set at 140bpm. I set it to 150bpm and it matches up with your recording. Also, for it to sound right you'll want to use tied notes instead of rests. I'm working on that right now. Once I'm done, I'll create an mp3 so you can hear what it sounds like when Guitar Pro plays it back.

Yeah, the "tied notes" thing makes sense - I knew I'd screwed up those pauses. Thanks muchly! I really appreciate the help.

Guitar Pro Tab
If you can't import this into PowerTab, I'll figure out a way to make it a PT file myself.
Yeah, that GP file won't load into PT, sadly. And the tempo doesn't matter so much - as long as I got the type of note right. I think the 8th note I went with is correct...
I figured that out after downloading PowerTab just now...

Edited PowerTab file

I knew there was a reason I had both programs on my old computer...

The recording at 140bpm I made is the same length as as the one you provided. 150 with longer pauses might work... 150 sounded closer... Maybe a different time signature, which, sadly, is beyond my current level of musical knowledge. (I'm a vocalist, so, I only know enough about music to fool others into thinking I'm a real musician.) Hopefully a real musician will be along shortly to help you further.

*cheeky bump*

Just one last check to see if any musical types out there have any words of advice about correcting the still-not-quite-right score before the thread sinks into oblivion. Thank you.

:D

Sorry, I have no clue when it comes to music, otherwise I would be happy to help.
