Murray Gold definitely doing music for 2010 series

This interview confirms that he's working on the first Moffat/Smith episodes, and has already started on a new version of the theme tune.

I have no opinion on this, as I never notice music except when it's mixed too loud for my liking, which is not Gold's decision.

yeah, people blame Murray when it's too loud and it's not his fault it's the sound editor/mixer's fault for not getting the levels right.

For the most part I love Murray Gold's music, especially the softer themes. Only occasionally do I find his music to be too loud and bombastic a la John Williams (who I can't stand except for Schindler's List). I particularly can't stand the U.N.I.T. theme.

While I would have liked to seen a new composer with the new production team, I'm happy that Gold is returning and he's composing a new theme. Can't wait to hear it.

Agreed - I think that the show will find some audible continuity between eras comforting for the fans. I'm sure Gold is capable of different variations on his work, for example toning down his use of choral components (which IMO got overused with the Ood subplots and Flavia's theme tangents).

Unlike Bear McCreary, I think we can keep going with this particular composer. :)

That's good news. I love the music he composed for Who. At least, one small solace for me! ;)

I am VERY glad to hear this! My enjoyment of Gold's work on Doctor Who rivals that of Franke's on Babylon 5. Some of my favorite portions of Gold's work comes from "The Girl in the Fireplace" and "Forest of the Dead".

I'm thrilled that he's sticking around. Good to hear theres SOMETHING Moffatt isn't changing. :)

I'm actually a big fan and keep a lot of his DW work on my mp3 player.

Confess I really liked that bouncy little post regeneration theme. Wonder if its a preview?

Great news.
Although with everything else pretty much new, it would be fitting for him, to throw every theme he has used (and often reused) out of the window and start from scratch.

Without a doubt, but as much as I like the original work I'm also eager to see what he comes up with. Or rather HEAR what he comes up with.

Me too, but I hope it's better than the current one. I have not liked that arrangement since it started with Series 4. I just find it too chaotic and...hard.

Yeah, it's loud and dumb, isn't it? It's the Spinal Tap version of the theme. I'd like something a little softer and weirder.

The best version i have found was a mash up somebody did of the original Delia's version with Murrays present incarnation, and i love it, especially the beginning, its a credit to Delia's that its sound so good together with a version made over 40 years later....

Good ol' Doctor OHO. Interesting mix. I always liked that "middle 8" section or whatever the right term is. I've gotten fairly used to Murray's version over the years though.

Happy to hear that Gold's returning! I love his leitmoffs. Hoping the new version of the theme is a bit softer than the current one -- more akin to the Series Two/Three version.

I thought we would get a new version of the theme no matter what and I'm very pleased that Gold is remaining as composer for the series. I would have taken Ben Foster as well if Gold chose to left or was let go, I like his work on Torchwood. Still not any word on the release of the specials soundtrack?
