Multi-Generational Trek Series

Watching VOY I got to wondering what a series like Voyager would have been like if their long term mission had been intentional. What I mean is what if Starfleet designed a multi-generational ship and sent a group of people to another part of the galaxy (not sure about the reason).

Interesting. It would almost have to be a Voyager type show though. There'd be ethical problems involved with pretty much signing up children against their will before they're born. But I'm sure there are ways around that, the easiest would be making them lost in space.

An interesting way to do this would be to have essentially two shows. Half going on in the past and half going on in the future and then revealing how things unfold. I think there was an anime similar to this, but I'm not an expert in Japanese stuff at all.

I'm not sure how that's really an ethical dilema since parents make choices for their children that impact them for the rest of their lives all the time but that might be an interesting side to explore.

Also, I don't want them to be lost like Voyager since we've already seen that. I really am in love with the notion that their mission is completely intended and it's the problems of a long term voyage that become the impetus for the series.

As for the Japanese anime stuff, I don't know either because it doesn't appeal to me, lol. Anyway, this concept makes me wonder why The Federation hasn't attempted anything like this since it appeared to work to some degree during The 22nd century with the boomers but then again that was a matter of nessessity due to slow ships.

Sounds interesting to me. Here's an idea: What if the series was about the original crew's descendants who have forgotten their mission because something strange has happened in the past that has rendered their ancestors unable to complete the mission and the characters are curious about their origin and the past events. That wouldn't be so Voyager-like as some of the other variations of the idea. This series would probably be quite different from what the original poster thought. However, there's one problem: What would this series have to do with the Trek canon? (Well, there could be some familiar aliens, like Romulans, involved in the plot in some way or the plot would have something to do with past series.) Of course, a series based on the original poster's idea could be just an exploration show like TOS.
