Okay, some SPOILERS for William Shatner's Mirror Universe Trilogy coming up, just thought I'd warn you...

In the novels, it is stated that in 2272, five years after the crossover event in "Mirror, Mirror", Kirk of the mirror universe became Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Starfleet. Five years later, in 2277, he assassinated Emperor Androvar Drake and claimed the throne for himself. It's known that he only ruled for a short time before being ousted by Spock, but I've been having a bit of trouble attaching hard dates to the events that come after, e.g. the formation of the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance, the Battle of Wolf 359, decimation of Earth, etc. Can anyone help me in this matter?

Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. Let's see... how about 2325? Battle of Wolf 359... uh... 2362. Decimation of Earth... 2308.

Done.

But wasn't Emperor Tiberius (nick, nick, nick, :)) the one who brought the Cardassians and the Klingons, together?

2293 - Praxis explosion occurs

2295 - Tiberius brings Klingons and Cardassians together, Battle of Wolf 359, Tiberius flees aboard his sleeper ship. Decimation of Earth

2373 - Tiberius is found and revived by a Klingon ship and sets in motion his nefarious plans

This approximates Tiberius being missing for ~80 years as in the 'prime' universe and then gives him 2-3 years to get his plans going before the events of Spectre et al which take place in '76-'77 during the Dominion War

One thing though: If 2277 was the year in which Tiberius was crowned emperor, deposed and fled from Earth, then what was he doing during those years before he brought the Alliance together in 2295? Oh yeah, and I thought the Mirror Universe Trilogy took place around 2374 - '75? I only ask because I'm writing a fan fic set in the MU centring around Tiberius, and I'd like to get the dates worked out.

Also, is there any possible way that Shatner's explanation for the Divergence can be reconciled with what we see in "In A Mirror, Darkly"?

I think its pretty clear that Tiberius to live his life, always planning his vengeance against Spock and his reforms. I think you can write just about anything about that period.

However, if you allow me, I could do some research, and see if he did do anything during this time.

The way "Spectre" and "Dark Victory", the ENT MU two-parter reconsiles with them pretty well. However, in "Preserver", there's a scene in the epilogue, where

[spoilers]

Cochrance wakes up the following day of the First Contact, with full memory of the FC film, making Lily wonder - apparently, Dr. Crusher tried to wipe their recent memories of the TNG crew from them, but worked only in Lily. Then, Cochrane is faced with the dillema, of whether to tell the Vulcans of their common future, and of the Borg, or whether to proceed, as the history had provided him with had had him go.He remembers the Schroediger's Cat experiment, and decides to flip a coin to decide.

"The rest was history", said the chapter.

[/spoiler]

So you see, its pretty hard to reconsile the MU two-parter from ENT with the MU Shatner trilogy. You can, but a bit convolutedly.

as far as i'm concerned, no, you can't reconcile them. IaMD suggests the Empire's existed for at least 200 years, the Shat-trilogy suggest the MU's only existed since 2063 and the Empire's only about ~80 years old in the 2150s. Plus, IaMD pretty much states the Empire is truly the Terran Empire, while the Shat books suggest it's more of a joint Human-Vulcan Empire...

if you give Tiberius a 5-year reign as Emperor that takes you to 2282 and gives you 11 years for him to be trying to wrest power back from Spock and maybe making nice with the Klingons and Cardassians before introducing them to each other after 2293...

this is veering dangerously toward fan-fic forum territory...

Obviously, the scene near the end of "Preserver" with Cochrane and Lily must be ignored in light of IaMD. One thing I'm wondering is where Picard and co. were when Cochrane shot the Vulcan and led the attack on their ship. You'd think they would have told him the Vulcans were their friends.

The Vulcans must eventually have risen above their slave status in IaMD and become more equal with Terrans in the empire. Once this happened, the Terrans told them all they knew about the Borg and working together, they were able to destroy them. That's the best way I can reconcile it.

There couldn't have been a mirror Picard & crew there, because by Picard's time, the Terran Empire had ceased to exist. Thus there could have been no mirror Enterprise-E to travel back in time.

^^Right. IaMD wasn't proposing the FC scene as the origin of the MU, just one event within a history that had been different all along.

Besides, presumably Picard & co. weren't there as part of the "original" history in the main universe either; they only went back in response to the Borg's alteration of history. And with no Starfleet or Enterprise-D in the MU, there would've been no "Q Who," no contact with the Borg (except for what we saw in The Worst of Both Worlds in Glass Empires).

^^Then how do you explain the existence of places in the MU with names like Lake Riker?

And just in case anyone's wondering why I'm asking all these questions, it's because my fan fic includes both IaMD and Shatner's Mirror Universe Trilogy in its 'continuity'. Should I just ignore any discrepancies and assume they're historical errors? (e.g. 'the novels are fictionalisations of real events' approach)

So, if we elbow all the stuff about FC being the divergence point, how much would that effect the narrative of the books? Could things still happen as they did? (By this, I refer to events in the 'present' portions of the stories with Kirk and Picard trying to stop Emperor Tiberius destroying the universe, the involvement of the Preservers, Mirror-Spock, etc)

I myself find the explanation of the MU's creation as described in Shatner and Reeves-Stevens's MU novels, to fit much better with what we know. "Preserver" in particular, plays with the story wonderfully, using the Schrödinger's cat as a metaphor for the whole symbiosis of the normal universe and the Mirror Universe.

Far more scientific and honest explanation that, ehm, "In a Mirror, Darkly" (which is a fine episode in and of itself).
