One's circle of friends is often an unreliable indicator of box office success. Back in the eighties, I knew lots of serious scifi authors and editors who were convinced that SPECIES and STARGATE had bombed, because they thought they were dopey.

Never mind that they were both hits.

And I still run into people who think that DAREDEVIL and GHOST RIDER lost money.
