Movie you love--sequence you hate.

I liked the new Star Trek movie OK, but felt it would have been a stronger film had it not shown Kirk's dad dying. That whole sequence felt unnecessary and awkward.

If by unnecessary and awkward you mean the best bit of the film, then I completely agree. :wtf:

As for movies I love, sequences I hate - I cant say I have any. The closest I can think of is Chris Tucker in the Fifth Element, but if theres a part of a film which is so terrible i'd hate it, it tends to ruin the whole movie for me.

The final shot of "Village of the Damned", which shows the glowing eyes of the children flying away from the wreckage of the school building. No one I've ever watched the movie with has ever understood what exactly that shot is supposed to mean, other than being all weird and spooky. Which is fine, except the movie then ends and we have no idea what's going on. I gather it's supposed to convey that the children somehow survived the explosion in a non-corporeal form, but that doesn't follow from the rest of the story, and isn't pulled off very well.

Superman The Movie...Superman and Lois flying over Metropolis and we get the Can You Read My Mind dialogue...I agree with the poster who brought it up earlier, it's cheesy and I would have preferred if Lois was just starring at Supes trying to contemplate him silently with John William's beautiful score playing instead.

Sunshine...the entire second half of the movie after they find the first Icarus...

Daredevil: Director's Cut - I really liked this version of the film, and agreed with the changes that were made. I was just disappointed that they kept the incredibly stupid playground scene. There had to be a better way for Elektra and Matt to have their first encounter. There just had to be.

I am sure there are other movies/sequences I could name, but I am drawing a blank right now.

See, now I really liked this scene. It was light & fun at just the time when the movie needed to be light & fun. There's a definite chemistry between Matt & Elektra here. And for people like them, fighting IS flirting.

The awkward part of the Director's Cut of Daredevil is the big break that now exists between the final Daredevil/Bullseye fight & the final Daredevil/Kingpin fight where Ben Urich tells the detective that Wesley is the guy who has the evidence proving that Wilson Fisk is the Kingpin. It fleshes out the plot a little more but it really disrupts the epic action pacing of the end of the film.

Since we've been ragging on Spider-Man 3 so much, I thought you might find this funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoNgMVFQNBI&feature=channel

I know this had to be mentioned somewhere, be it here or in an alternate universe's TBBS. But Revenge of the Sith, I love. (I like darkness, so shoot me). But Vader at the end screaming, "Nnnnnoooooooooooo!"

I hate that. It is effin' retarded.

But yet a part of me, I admit, deep and dark inside...sort of loves it just for the idiocy of it. It's like Jar Jar. You hate that Mofo, but can't stop saying "Mesa" every now and again. :vulcan:

The special edition of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back where they felt the need to include this whole extra sequence of Darth Vader getting on his shuttle, flying to, and boarding his Star Destroyer. It was fine before. We can deduce for ourselves how he managed to get there.
Agreed. Besides, the shot of Vader stepping down from the shuttle was too obviously an outtake from the opening scene of Return of the Jedi.

The scene in Armageddon where they are on Mir, and all they have to do is fire the thrusters and magically they have perfect gravity on the station (not in the direction of centrifugal force), with the station having ladders already installed, etc which wouldn’t be there in a zero-G environment.
That was not Mir. It was a fictitious station presumably built to have a gravitational environment when needed. You are right about the gravity being in the wrong direction, however.

Nicky Katt in The Dark Knight, who has to comment on absolutely everything that goes wrong in the convoy chase.

"Lower 5th? We'll be like sitting ducks!"

"Get us out of here!"

"That's not good! No, that's not good!"

Just shut the hell up, already.

Matrix Revolutions has two scenes I hate: Neo at the train station just hanging out with the adorable Indian family. I'm always waiting for the movie to start. And then of course Trinity's 10 minute death scene.

That seems to be a reoccurring bit in the Nolan films. "Exposition Action Guy!"

Any Michael bay film that involves a racial stereotype, a sex joke, an offensive comment or a combination of all 3.

^Yeah. There is way too much "jive-ass" comic relief in the Transformers movies. I'm surprised the Black Panthers don't hunt him down and shoot him dead... with two guns... jumping in the air... in slow motion...

There's a deleted scene where we find out that Nicky Katt is actually the nephew of the "It's gonna blow!" guy from Batman Begins.
