$$$ movie tickets $$$

It's between 4.50 € and 8.50 € at the cinema I usually go to (which shows original versions), depending on the day and time you choose. As a student, I only have to pay 5.50 €.

$10.50 here. I go to maybe 2 or 3 movies a year, so it's not a big deal. The theater has a reasonably priced bar and the concessions are also fairly affordable. Large popcorn is about $6.00 with refills, the crab pretzels are, I think, $7.00, which is less than you would pay at most restaurants. Ain't cheap, but not too over-the-top.

I just read that here, in San Diego, the cost of a movie ticket will go up to, get this, $15.50 for general admission. Luckily I am a VET, so I get my tickets on base for $7.50...but hell, $15.50?? Sometimes I do payfull price because I forget to get tickets...
I live in Orange County, and it costs $10.50 for general admission.

But, $15.50???

It's not like employers are paying us anymore as it is with the looming recession just around the corner. :(

I went to the movie theatres 16 times over the past summer (2008), but those days are long gone now sorry to say...

I go to two different theaters here.

Theater one: General admission: 7.50 Matinee 5.00

Theater two: General admission: 8.75 Matinee 5.75

I never bother buying food, might as well get a burger or pizza after.

What is a crab pretzel?

A soft pretzel covered with crab dip, usually with a sprinkling of cheese on top and then baked. These are the ones they serve at the theater. Not quite the same level of yum as you might get at a restaurant (which would generally be made with lump crab meat, not claw), but pretty damn good for a movie theater. It's a brand-spanking new Landmark theater, and other than the art house theater and a one-screen historic job up the road, it's the only one in town.

That sounds really good. Now I'm hungry.

You would think Baltimore would have more theaters than that.

I think $8.50 is the most I've payed for a movie. I usually just wait until it comes to the $3 theatre though.

For the first run theaters...
Theater one: General- 8.50, Matinee- 5.50, Before noon- 4
Theater two: General- 8.50, Before 4pm matinee- 5.75, 4pm to 6pm matinee- 4.75

^Yeah, here's it's about 8.50 for General, 6.50 for matinee and 5 bucks for a before noon show.

Hubby and I hit a lot of "before noon" shows. Some people go to church on Sunday morning; we go to the movies. :D

^^Indeed... If I'm going to catch a movie, I'm gonna get me a Qdoba breakfast burrito and then run on over to get a $4 matinee.

Around 9 here. The theater I worked at, is like 8.50 though. And I think 7.50 for students. I don't care. Don't pay :) And no I don't sneak in :p

But why are you paying $8 for Diet Coke? Just have your wife stick a few cans in her purse.

And for God's sake open them BEFORE THE MOVIE STARTS!!!!

Also, I find it odd that San Diego movie prices would far exceed New York or Los Angeles. Are you sure you got all the facts? Regular showings at regular theaters and all? Perhaps it's a mini-chain of theaters who need the bump to stay in business (although 100+% of ticket prices usually go to the distributors the first few weeks, and not a penny to the exhibitor).

I've got can opening in the theatre down to a science.

I wait until the right moment (a wall of sound, even from the scene changing from quiet conversation) and use my sleeve bunched up like a silencer. I place the sleeve/silencer tightly over the top of the can and pull up on the tab. Done correctly, the sound is almost minimal.

Cause there's no "cheaper" sound than the crack of a soda can at the theatre.

Here they are around $12 for a session, but that equates to around $17 US (with an exchange rate between the AUS dollar and the US dollar), but in Sydney I remember it was around 15 dollars or more.

A movie ticket in Nashville is $9.50, matinee $6.50 although one Regal now has done away with matinee pricing.

Which Regal in Nashville no longer has matinees? A couple of work friends and I are going to Nashville to watch Quantum of Solace and even though we will probably not make it to a matinee, on the off chance that we can it would be good to know which theater it is. And, the Hollywood 27 is one of the theaters we thought about seeing it at. We all work in Columbia, but I refuse to give the Columbia Shady Brook Theater one more dime of my money!
