Movie Maker Help

OK I'm not sure where this thread should go because it's kinda Trek related but this seemed the most suitable place to put it (if anyone thinks it should be somewhere else please tell me)

OK soooo I've seen loadsa videos on YouTube and stuff which is bits from episodes of Star Trek cut up and stuck together like a montage (e.g. http://fv-poster.livejournal.com/31864.html?view=4372600#t4372600 (love this video :))

I've got a few episodes of Trek I downloaded off ITunes a little while ago which I tried to put into Movie Maker to make something like this but it didn't like the file type and my converter wouldn't let me convert it (I realise this is probably because it's protected or something). So I'm just wondering how people who make these videos actually make them?? Anyone know?

What converter do you have? I have several. When one doesn't work, I use a different one.

Miro Video Converter almost always works, but once in a while it will reject a file.

The best file converter I've ever come across is Format Factory. It's freeware, but be careful-- I've heard that the latest version is adware. I'm still using a version from several years ago.

I don't know what format iTunes uses, but I assume it's MOV. Format Factory can handle that normally, but there may be protection involved. I suspect that most videos like the kind you mention on YouTube are ripped or captured from DVDs, so somebody might be able to recommend a good screen cap program for you.
