Mothers forced to swap 2yr-old sons.

A horrible experience for all involved. :(

Two mothers in Russia have been forced to swap their two-year-old sons after DNA tests revealed the children had been mixed up as newborns by a careless nurse.

According to Russian media reports, a court ordered the two heartbroken women - a Chechen and a Russian - to exchange the boys they had raised as their own.

The error was uncovered when one of the mothers, Anna Androsova, discovered her son's maternity ward ID tag actually had the mother's name Zarema Taisumova on it.

I don't have a child, but speaking hypothetically I don't imagine I'd be interested in "swapping" after 2yrs. If I were the one to discover the mix-up I doubt I'd mention it to anyone at all.

No kidding. I didn't read the article but I find it hard to imagine the mothers not being able to keep the child they raised if they were both in agreement. It just sucks for everyone involved.

Gee, that's not traumatic for the 2 year olds at all. They won't grow up with any subconscious fears of things being taken away from them.

Yeah. I don't have any conscious memories from that age, but subconsciously I'm sure the experiences are there and will affect the children. :(

One of the mothers wanted her natural child back, the other wanted to keep the one she had been raising.

*shrug*, i'd take my bio kid back and hope the other family didn't do too shitty a job for 2 years. if the wifey was too broken up about it i'd try to schedule 'playdates'

the parents will probably make up some story to tell the kids and may even stay involved in both kids lives before gradually breaking it off

Then the kid can subconsciously wonder what that was all about for 20+ years before confronting the parents with weird memories/feelings or having memories resurfaced via a psychiatrist

There's no good solution to this, but the best would be leaving the kids where they are.

I think if the judge threw in a couple million in damages, they would have been willing to accept any decision.

Why doesn't it mention how the fathers feel?

Neither of them read their baby's maternity tag for two years?

Okay, I know I'm a paranoid nutcase, but I checked that thing carefully for all the details!

:chuckle:

Oh, Russia. Don't ever change.

I don't understand why the one mother insisted on swapping. However, ignorance is not necessarily bliss ... there are plenty of medical reasons why you might want to know if your child had different biological parents, and why you might want to be able to get information about their biological family's medical history.
