Mother's Day coming up: Share about your Mom!

I was thinking about my statement that my mom was a "great broad". This might help explain....

The weekend before she died, we were all in Los Angeles for her parents' 50th anniversary. We had a great time that weekend (she died the following Tuesday).

Anyway, my sister and I were giving each other healthy rations of crap, centered around behaving boorishly at the party the next day. Our mom told us to knock it off, that this was serious, etc.

Of course, that just set us off even worse. We plotted evil things for the party just to get a rise out of her. We thought it quite amusing.

Mom came into the kitchen where we were, walked right up to us and said, poking us with her finger with all sincerity...

"Look you two. I want it Norman Fucking Rockwell around here!!!"

I don't know how that translates to people who didn't know her, but it was hilarious. Vintage mom. My dad and I still quote that to this day.

:)

OMG!!! I LOVE IT!!!! :lol: What a GREAT story!!!!
She had to be a Nu Yawka.

:lol:

Los Angeles, born and raised.

:cool:

Does anyone else ever say something or do something and feel themselves turning into their mom? It's happening with increasing frequency as I get older and it terrifies me!

I'm so sorry that the relationship has broken. I hope fences can be mended soon. Life is too short.

Very true, Scottydog. :) I too hope that both of us have the courage to mend things soon.

An Officer, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope she comes back too.

As much as Son and I bicker I am always the first person he phones if something exciting happens.

As much as I am a little disappointed that Mum abandoned me when I was born she is still the second person that I phone, after Man.

You cannot escape having a Mother ~ it's a relationship neither choosen, or sometimes wanted. I suppose you just have to work on it!

That is all! Goodnight ;)

Many true words spoken by you. I miss having a mother in my life. I used to be a real mommy's girl. :lol: I am only now beginning to realise she is only human, just like me. And perhaps I should practice more forgiveness. Easier said than done though! I am waiting for her to change, and I am sure she is doing the same! :lol: A silly way to go about things of course, but we are as silly as each other. :cool:

I dunno, I'm sure some dudes have more personality traits in common with their moms than their dads.

This is true. I'm an example. Of course, my mom used to tell me that I was alot like HER dad. Grandpa and I did in fact get along better than anybody else in the family.

Maybe we were three of a kind.

Thank you :) My years have made me wise! :lol:
Unfortunately like leopards, Mothers rarely change their spots, it may just be a case of you changing your view.
If you really miss her that much ~ give her another chance.
And like you say ~ you're both only human.

Kinda figured. That sounds like something my mother would say.

She's from Ojai.

Absolutely. This is the key. Just as the serenity prayer says:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

It's one thing to understand something intellectually, but quite another to implement it. :lol: If I were able to live by this, many things would be easier, I'm sure!

No, but considering that my first word was "shit", I think I turned into my dad minus the beard at around age 2. Which, as I said before, explains my poor relationship with my mother. :lol:

No, but I do find myself turning into my grandpa (mom's dad) the older I get. But that's nothing new, I've always been a grumpy old man.

Lovely words. But sometimes you either want to hit someone or burst out in tears.
Serenity is something that has not yet found me.
