I was watching Star Wars: ANH on Spike last night and I got to thinking it has to be one of the most quotable movies ever... I mean: "That's no moon" "The Force will be with you, always" "Use the Force" "She's got it where it counts kid" "These aren't the droids you're looking for" and so on and so forth. I can't think of any movie that even comes close to the amount in ANH, can anyone else?
"I expect the best and I give the best. Here's the beer. Here's the entertainment. Now have fun. That's an order." "You once asked me for advice. You want some now? Never pass up a good thing." "Come on you apes, you wanna live forever?" "They're doing their part. Are you?" "They sucked his brains out." "You're it, until you're dead or I find someone better." "What goods' a knife in a nuke fight?"
The Karate Kid. After that movie, anyone unfortunate enough to be named "Daniel" (myself included) became "DANIELSON!"
I doubt many people will agree with me, but Annie (the 1983 version) is very quotable, especially in my family. Besides all of the songs being totally memorable and always stuck in my head (even when I haven't seen the movie for years), the way that the actors pronounce certain lines just really make them stick out. Examples: "Oh my goodness, oh my goodness!" "We're never gonna get there!" "Leapin' lizards!" "She hadda go baffroom" and then the great followup by Carol Burnett Carol Burnett actually has tons of memorable lines. Ah man, now I have the song Little Girls stuck in my head. The Sandlot is another good one.
Gotta go with "Casablanca": "Play it again, Sam." "This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship." "We'll always have Paris." "I'm shocked, shocked . . . ." "I was misinformed." "All the gin joints in all the world and she walks into mine." "I stick my neck out for nobody!" CASABLANCA is like Shakespeare. Its dialogue has been so absorbed into the language that people don't even realize they're quoting it . . ..
Airplane Talladega Nights Both two great quotable movies. The first one is probably the best Quotable movie I've ever seen.
Well, I'm going to leave it to several other film buffs on the board to inform us that the phrase wasn't actually said like that in the film. Me, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that worrying about movie misquotations like these don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world...
"Airplane!". "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue." "Surely you can't be serious." "I am serious... and don't call me Shirley." "Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?" "This woman has to be gotten to a hospital." "A hospital? What is it?" "It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now."
Hell Yes!! But this part of Airplane 2 is the best! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCl6RCGkPuo&feature=related
