Most Overrated Character

I like Data and all, but when people criticize Pulaski for insulting Data I roll my eyes. At the time, Data was a toaster and yeah I get they wanted to add conflict, but I don't blame Pulaski at all for treating Data the way she did early on.

I said Data, but could also have said Worf. I didn't like either of them.
I don't know why you roll your eyes. Data has got his pips, he's the 3rd officer of the flagship, he's a leader of men, Pulaski comes around and calls the guy a toaster. I like Pulaski as a character but her behaviour towards Data is unprofessional. You might expect that if the android filled a butler-crewman function on ship -- not dissimilar to how Voyager's EMH was introduced - but Data is a senior officer that earned is spurs and is therefore entitled to respect. The Pulaski Data clash was crude and poorly thought through - certain their initial interactions are anyway.
I rolled my eyes because I didn't think that was a big deal. It might have been a little unprofessional, but I saw it more as uncomfort working with an android rather than Disrespectful. Also, as the season went on, Pulaski learned to respect Data even more, which was good character development for both I thought.
Riker can be a bit annoying and cheesy sometimes.
Just reading the thread header, the first character to come to mind was Data so that is the one I clicked. I could have just as easily picked Wesley, though.
I don't see how Wesley could be overrated, so many people hated him. Underrated, yes, but not overrated.
My initial thought was Data, however a lot of that probably came from the movies, and this poll is specific about S1-7 only, so I had to go for Riker (while Riker was far better than Troi for example, he's also higher rated than Troi)

Riker would be the overrated one - 50% higher by the community than I think he should have. Troi is 33% higher, Worf is 16% lower, Wesley is 66% lower
As I'm guessing at both General and My own ratings these things are subjective.

Deanna, I just never really got into her like other people could.

During the run, he was pretty much the most popular character.
However I didn't find his innocence compelling, and the humor written for Data was lame. Beyond those elements, I thought he was bland.
Troi, Crusher, Geordi were weaker characters, but they were never had enough popularity to be "overrated".

I don't think anyone is overrated really. Riker has some good episodes where he sparkes, so does Troi.
LaForge maybe. I think they tried to write better material for him and it usually just didn't work out. There's alot of LaForge-centred episodes that go flat or fail completely.

I voted Riker. I used to really like the character but on recent rewatches he's just not that interesting.
The problem with Geordi is that he became too serious and lost the fun side he had in the first season. He barely had a personality after he became chief engineer.
Riker could be likeable sometimes but he was an enormous douchebag most of the time. Did he ever befriend any officers who weren't part of the command crew? He came off like one of those people who think they're superior to those "beneath" them. He probably only put up with Wesley because Picard liked him.

I wonder what Geordi would have been like had he kept the cowboy attitude from season 1. He had a tendency to do that a lot but I agree when he became chief engineer, he lost something in the process.
For this poll, I am going to have to go with "none of the above," since Ensign Ro isn't on the list.
