I don’t watch the CGI effects.
I have the blu-ray set and a giant TV. Which episode do I put on?
I would have to choose one of the episodes that was shot outdoors...probably Paradise Syndrome. The indoor planet sets just aren’t as picturesque or ‘gorgeous’.
Good point! As much as the interiors are shot with so much bold color (which I personally like but not all might) and good quality sets (which many larger ones put in by default but YMMV) meet or exceed the NTSC 72% color space standard (100% rocks,. especially with filmed sources as film has exponentially more density (and accuracy) than videotape had for color!!) , the on-location sets are generally top notch and "The Paradise Syndrome" is exemplary in that regard. Therefore it should be decreed that any episode to welcome a new large screen TV would be any Trek episode ending in "Syndrome".Well, that last sentence is
a tadoverly silly but what else is new...
One explanation of the NTSC color standard:

The 100 vs 72% comparisons alone negate the need for reading the piece but I eat this stuff for breakfast, but I babble more than a brook...
I think Arena is "gorgeous" on the big screen. We get a massive outdoor scene in the bombed outpost and battle inside it. We get some space ship chase scenes. Then we get the massive outdoor battle of Kirk and the Gorn among the Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park!![]()
A lot of old-fashioned care was taken in the early Finnerman episodes to make the female guest star look gorgeous, like a 1940s A-picture, but in dazzling color. "The Conscience of the King" and "Dagger of the Mind", you can't go wrong. "Mudd's Women" is another one I like for the imagery. "Miri" is a good one for cinematography in general.
For special effects, Is There In Truth No Beauty? is a good one. For crispness, Where No Man Has Gone Before is pretty great. Almost any early first season episode is fantastic for color richness.
