Maybe you're thinking of Jetal from "Latent Image," who died under similar circumstances (Memory Alpha even speculates that Ballard was originally meant to be Jetal).

On the other hand, Hudson Leick is not only a staggering beauty but a staggeringly gifted actress, even more so than Jeri Ryan. But of course if she'd gotten cast as Seven, then Callisto on Xena would've had to disappear or be killed off, and that would've been a shame.
Small world: Vanessa Angel was actually almost cast as Xena in her first appearance on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, but got sick and had to decline the role, leading the producers to fall back on Lucy Lawless even though she'd just played a different guest character a few episodes earlier.
