Most anticipated films of 2012

1. The Avengers: will they pull it off? will it be amazing?
2. Dark Knight Rises: will they pull it off? will it be amazing? will Bane be cool?
3. The Hobbit: will it be as magical and BIG as LOTR?
4. Prometheus: will there be xenomorphs?
5. Amazing Spider-Man: will we get yet another drawn out origin story? will Spidey actually crack jokes?
6. John Carter: I didn't care at first but the last trailer looked really cool
Also... Men in Black III, Battleship, Resident Evil 5, World War Z, Underworld Awakening
 
There's a lot of great films I'm looking forward to this year, probably more so than last year:

1. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Why is it every year, my most anticipated film of the year comes out in December?! First Tron: Legacy, then The Adventures of Tintin, and now The Hobbit. Bah! :scream:
2. The Dark Knight Rises
3. Prometheus
4. The Avengers
5. The Great Gatsby - I have high, high expectations for this considering it's my favorite non-science fiction novel, but I have a feeling it'll be good considering it's a Baz Luhrman production. However, that being said, I'm not happy that he decided to direct it in Australia instead of New York.
6. Brave - Hopefully a return to form for Pixar after the abysmal Cars 2.
7. Skyfall
8. Les Misérables - I've been meaning to read this for years and I finally got a copy last year, so hopefully I'll have it read by the time this is released.
9. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel - Starring Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, and Tom Wilkinson? Do I need to say more?
10. The Amazing Spider-Man - I'm cautiously optimistic about this after having a lot of issues with the first three movies.
11. Frankenweenie
12. The Bourne Legacy
13. Haywire
14. Snow White & the Huntsman - I'm on the fence with this one. On the one hand, the trailer looks awesome and has a mostly awesome cast (I love the selection of actors playing the dwarves). On the other hand, Kristen Stewart is Snow White. That alone could ruin the film.

I just did my top ten most anticipated films. I have a much longer list, most of which is shared by others in this thread. It's an exciting year for film.
 
I wish I could be enthusiastic about upcoming releases, but the whole 3-D thing really destroyed it for me as it seems every film I want to see is being shown in 3-D and my inability to find a theatre showing Hugo in a format I could actually enjoy really disappointed me. Now I don't give a damn - I'll see the movies when they come out on Blu-ray. Maybe. Or I might just forget about them. All the things I enjoy doing are being wrecked - bookstores are closing, pretty soon you won't be able to buy DVDs or CDs anymore. And I'm sure it won't be long before they start broadcasting Doctor Who in 3-D or something....

That said, I'm intrigued by Prometheus and I haven't heard if it's 3-D so I might be able to go see it. I was very late to the party in terms of the Marvel superhero films, having just seen Iron Man 2 on Blu-ray over the holidays. I'm interested in The Avengers though I'm reserving decision until I see a trailer that isn't a bunch of blipverts (those who saw the teaser at the end of IM2 know what I mean). A new Bond film will always be of interest (and surely to god THAT one will play in 2-D somewhere). And of course The Hobbit. Oh and Resident Evil 5 as long as it carries on from the last film (that one I won't be seeing until the Blu-ray, though, just as I had to wait for RE4 as no one showed the 2-D version); Milla Jovovich falls into the "I'd watch her read a cereal box" category, though I actually enjoyed RE4 much more than RE3.

I'm unapologetic - 3-D has really spoiled it for me. It wouldn't be so bad if we had an option, but the idea that every 3-D film is being shown in 2-D as well is a myth unless you live in either a city like LA or some out-of-the-way place that doesn't have the 3-D projectors.

I agree with you on 3-D being god awful, but I've yet see a movie that is 3-D without the option of seeing it in 2-D in theaters, so I don't see the need to spur movies solely because they come out in 3-D.
 
^ I don't mind 3-D, but I agree about always having 2-D as an option, and I don't live in either an especially particularly populated or particularly remote area.

1. The Dark Knight Rises - Nothing needs to be said. Haha.
2. Skyfall - A James Bond movie directed by Sam Mendes, starring Daniel Craig, Jarvier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Judi Dench with music from Thomas Newman? December, why are you so far away?
3. The Bourne Legacy - I'm still miffed that Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon aren't returning, but Tony Gilroy and Jeremy Renner are pretty damn fine replacements. Plus, when you take the supporting cast into consideration (Edward Norton, Rachel Wiesz, and returning players Joan Allen, Albert Finney, and Scott Glenn) it's hard not to get excited for this film.
4. Prometheus - Ridley Scott returns to sci-fi? With Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace? Count me in.
5. Jack the Giant Killer - I'm a huge fan of Bryan Singer, and the initial teaser trailer was pretty impressive. I'm excited to see Singer return to big summer blockbusters with exciting set pieces.
6. The Avengers - The fact that this is fairly low on my list might surprise people, but I was considering placing it even lower. Yes, I'm incredibly excited for this film, but I've heard some things that have started to worry me. For starters, I keep hearing speculation that the film is going to lack substance and just be another average, one-of-the-mill action flick (in which the teaser trailer sadly supplemented). The cast is impressive, and the fact that it's coming from Joss Whedon is amazing, but I'm still a little cautiously optimistic. We'll see.
7. The Amazing Spider-Man - I loved the teaser trailer, and Marc Webb's directorial debut (500) Days of Summer was mightily impressive, so I'm definitely stoked for this. I love the darker, more mysterious, gritter tone.
8. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - What more needs to be said, really? It's Peter Jackson. It's Lord of the Rings. It's going to be great. The teaser trailer was one of the best of 2011. I can't wait for this.
9. Django Unchained - The script was absolutely phenomenal, and I love the cast. I think this is going to be a lot of fun.
10. World War Z - I know a lot of people have complained about elements of the production so far (i.e. fast zombies over slow zombies, for starters) but as one of the few that actually enjoyed Marc Forster's Quantum of Solace, I'm pretty pumped for this.

Honorable mentions: Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity, which is probably going to be amazing. Rian Johnson's Looper, which sounds incredible from everything that I've heard so far. I really hope Men In Black III doesn't suck. That would be nice. I don't have high hopes, though.

Prometheus- Ridley freaking SCOTT returns to sci fi? And a sorta, kinda, prequel to Alien? Count me in! :)

The Hobbit- Need I say any more? I was so absorbed in LOTR mania a decade ago (was it really that long?)

Skyfall- Bond is back. Nuff said

Django Unchained- I was a fan of Inglorious Basterds. And I'm sure I will equally approve of this

I don't really care about superhero movies. But I may see Avengers just because I'm a big Joss Whedon fan.
