however, there HAS been a timelime established and I HATE it when a book comes out and contridicts prior events...
I'm sure there are just as many people who hate the ST novels being so closely interconnected and prefer standalones, or they are who don't read every novel anyway, so don't notice contradictions with other novels.
The problem I have with the interconnected novels is the over use of cross overs between the characters. It makes it look like Starfleet has a total operating for of about 1000 people and everyone knows everyone else.
Case in point, Elias Vaughn. I know he's older than dirt and been arounf for years but I'm getting to the point I don't want to pick up the novels about the missing years because I get the feeling he'll pop up at some point. I wouldn't mid so much if he was operating on a parallel stroyline and doesn't meet up with the main crew but when he does appear you just know he's going to meet up with some of the canon folks. I'm just glad we didn't see his 100th birthday party. I would have known everyone there

Don't get me wrong, I like the character but i'd prefer he be used to give us a look behind the scenes.
Crossover fatigue prevented me from picking up Indistinguishable from Magic.
