More Sarah Jane?

Elisabeth Sladen has said they're preping on series 3.

From Digital Spy

Elisabeth Sladen has revealed that a third season of The Sarah Jane Adventures is being prepared.

"They’re writing it now, I believe," she told entertainment website Last Broadcast. "I’m very proud of the show, it’ll be lovely to do another series. And it’d be really lovely for the children... I mean ‘my co-stars’!"

The veteran actress, who first joined parent show Doctor Who in 1973, added that Yasmin Paige may not return to Sarah Jane as Maria Jackson.

"I’m not sure, Yasmin moved on to focus on her studies and Anjli’s [Mohindra] role has really settled in now - the new family have fitted in seamlessly," she said.

I read that, seems like good news.

Given the lack of Torchwood & Doctor Who next year, will be nice to have SJA step up.

Torchwood is on next year, I know it's only 1 week in February, but it is on. And there will be 4 specials of Doctor Who, but you're talking like there's nothing.

I agree, it can't be like Doctor Who, it needs more Maria. Even if she isn't in every episode, I think she needs to at least be around.

I disagree, what would be the point in Maria leaving & Rani joining, if Maria keeps coming back.

Crotchwood will be back for a five week run next year and DW is coming back for four or five specials.

Even better.

That means the run will be over nights and not weeks so we can get it out of the way.

Unfortunately, being prepared is no guarantee of anything the way things are going at the BBC right now - you may not have spotted, but both After You've Gone (sitcom) and Phoo Action (follow-up to BBC3 pilot from the spring) have been cancelled this week, despite having scripts written and actors & studios booked for imminent production (a bit like the original season 23 of Doctor Who).
So I'm not trying to be a wet blanket, as I really can't imagine them not doing a third run of SJA given its success, but don't take it for granted that it wil happen just because the necessary steps are being taken to ensure it can happen when the go-ahead comes.

Phoo Action was cancelled? BBC announced the new cast next last week.

From Media Guardian - www.guardian.co.uk/media - on Monday:
A full series of BBC3 drama Phoo Action has been canned just days before it was due to start filming after the corporation admitted it was not creatively good enough.
The show, about a kung-fu superhero starring Jaime Winstone, former Rocky star Carl Weathers and ER's Eddie Shin, received mixed reviews when a pilot episode aired in February, attracting 232,000 viewers and a multichannel share of 1.1% on BBC3.
Phoo Action was given a full-series commission by the BBC3 controller, Danny Cohen, and the BBC Fiction controller, Jane Tranter soon after.
However, a BBC spokesman confirmed to MediaGuardian.co.uk that the series would not now go ahead.
"The BBC has confirmed that the BBC3 drama series Phoo Action will not now be going into production," he said.
"During the course of pre-production it became clear that creatively Phoo Action was struggling to fulfil its ambitions as a television drama so the decision was taken to cancel it.
"BBC3 is still very interested in Phoo Action as a concept however and is looking into whether or not it may come back in another form in the future.
"Meanwhile, BBC3 continues to be wholly committed to developing innovative and original television dramas for its audience. Forthcoming titles confirmed for next year include PA's and Being Human."
Despite the Phoo Action pilot winning a Scottish Bafta last week, one crew member told The Herald newspaper in Scotland that the series had been dogged by script problems, with the actors frequently seeming embarrassed by lines they were asked to read.
According to the newspaper, pre-production had been underway for nine months at BBC Scotland before its cast and crew were told it was being axed on Friday.
The Herald reported that the axing of the series would cost 70 jobs and at least £500,000, although the BBC described the figure as "completely inaccurate".

A source told the newspaper: "There's over £200,000 of manpower and set-building that's gone into it, and they'll have to pay compensation to those people whose contracts have been cut.
"The actors have turned down other roles, and even come over from America to shoot this."
The source added that sets, including a mock-up of an underground train station and a city rooftop, would now be scrapped while a sports car was sitting unused in a garage at the studio.
It is understood shooting was due to begin later this month on the six-part series, which was slated to air on BBC3 next year.

^Sorry, I was thinking of Being Human, shame it's been cancelled. I had hopes for it, along with Clone, but after seeing that I'm just hoping they're not turning Being Human in to a load of shit with their reworking.

You're right of course, but I'd have thought that SJA's "let's tell a new story using these old Doctor Who props" method would be exactly the kind of thing the BBC would approve of these days.

I'm pleased to hear that there could be more SJA on the way next year, what with a lean year for Who and Torchwood. And to be honest I enjoy SJA better than Torchwood anyway

And even (God forbid) it does get canned, I'm still going to have a nice year full of new Doctor Who stories as I'm taking part in a huge marathon between November 23rd and the beginning of Series 5 in 2010, most of the serials I haven't seen before.

I will get new Doctor Who stories from the books, whilst I have the full collection I still have 5 unread
