MORE Positive Reviews

Those are indeed great. And when sources like the BBC and the Times say it's that good, I hope it will get some fence-sitters to go see the film.

I never thought I'd read the words "the magnificent Star Trek" (Digital Spy) in a review one day...

Yes, this is good news. I really get the sense a lot of us are really on the edge, just hoping the film can dod well enough to make sure their will be a sequal. I know they have ordered a script, but that is a long way from another movie.....which would be step two on the path to having trek back on TV.

Glad its getting good reviews.

Exactly! But I have a feeling that Paramount know what they're doing, and that the film doesn't need to do numbers like LOTR or The Dark Knight to guarantee a sequel. It'll probably work out and we'll get more Star Trek from now on.

Here's another one:

Daily Mail is sort of a tabloid, isn't it? Still, this article comes off relatively well-written and genuine in its enthusiasm for the film that, according to this, is "not only by far the best of the 11 Star Trek movies, it must rank as the outstanding prequel of all time."

Throughout, there is great emphasis on the fact that the crew members are not everymen.

Each is a talented individual who has knuckled down to serious training and passing rigorous exams with the highest honours.

It is one of the few movies I have seen in recent years which has celebrated intellectual endeavour, the informed weighing up of risks, the taking of responsibility. It is, well nigh uniquely in modern Hollywood, grown-up.

What happened to the intellectually devoid movie that everyone has been promising me?

I thought these characters were supposed to stumble on to the Enterprise without adequate training!

I feel cheated.

It looks like, for the most part, the films biggest critics thus far are the ones who haven't seen it yet.. go figure ;)

Here comes The Hollywood Reporter, with what could be labeled a spoilery fluff piece, but that contains yet another of those "Wow, I can't believe it's Star Trek!" pieces of praise we love to hear:

Paced at warp speed with spectacular action sequences rendered brilliantly and with a cast so expert that all the familiar characters are instantly identifiable, the film gives Paramount Pictures a new lease of life on its franchise.

Only skimmed a few of these - with one eye closed - in an attempt to avoid spoilers, but these are great reviews and bode well for the film in general.

Well, the fact they were willing to give hardcore fans a surprise screening, and doing a viral marketing campaign does indicate the studio has a faith in the viability of the movie. It bodes well for the future of Trek movies. I just hope this will be a trickle down effect and we may get another Trek tv show too!

these aren't the typical sound-bite friendly local tv critics or dubious websites giving "I Am Sam" some positive press. paramount is screening this film for legitimate news outlets, and the movie is getting positive press. if it were a turkey, they'd keep it under wraps. it's true that all the hoopla probably creates some good will, but you couldn't create enough good will to get such glowing reviews from legitimate reviewers.
