More Jericho coming?

I've been rewatching the series over the last week, and while this would be awesome, I don't have my hopes up.

I was really excited when I saw this thread but upon reading the article it sounds like the continuation might be in comic book form or something similiar.

Yeah, they told us they were probably going to be doing a movie a couple of months ago.

^The first half of the first season is a little insular, and some didn't like it, Sakrysta, but knowing your proclivities, I think you might enjoy it.

And an editor thought I was putting the cart before the horse when I e-mailed her saying if they did pick up the Jericho license, I wanted to be the first person on her go-to list.

I think that in the responses someone else other than the producers mentioned the possibility of a comic book series. Quite frankly, im in a hopeful mood today, so I am hoping and praying that we get a movie.

After Serenity I don't see a studio picking up another failed TV show for a movie. But with the success of the SG1 direct to DVD movies I could see Jericho going a similar route.

Jericho wa son one year before being canceled, then canceled again after 7 more episodes. Stargate had 10 seasons and a spinoff so comparing the two are a little different.

With DMZ already out there, putting out a Jericho comic book seems almost like a bad move.

I kinda think a Jericho comic would be a good idea. I think you have a decent chance of bringing in people who don't read ANY comics, but are fans of the show itself.

YES!! Jericho is worth watching!

It's one of the best series to come out in a long time.

That's why CBS cancelled it.

They didn't cancel it because it was good, they cancelled it because not enough people watched it. Television is going down the crapper, some of the best shows are now on cable networks because there's a lower ratings threshold needed to sustain a show.

Network TV is just more and more garbage. I think something like 18 million people watched the Bachelor finale last night.

You kidding me?

Of course, but my point was that a theatrical movie made after a niche show was canceled (firefly) couldn't attract enough viewers to justify its cost. But a direct to DVD movie made after a niche show ended (SG1) could attract enough viewers to justify making more DVDs.

Does SG1's success prove Jericho would be successful, of course not. But it does show direct to DVD follow ups can work. I think Star Trek: TOS/TNG are the only shows that have been able to follow up with theatrical movies.

I agree, I think this would have a lot better chance of success if it went straight to DVD.

On the other hand though, it could be made on a much smaller budget for the big screen than Serenity.

Serenity had a pretty small budget for a big-screen movie as it was. And it managed to make it back eventually when DVD sales are included; it just didn't make much in the way of profit.

I don't much care whether the Jericho movie is big-screen or not, honestly. Just make it and make it good.

You figure that they can make a cheap DVD movie for 10 million.
Sell the DVDs for 20 bucks... then selling 1 million copies probably means they break even. And you can probably sell it to SciFi for a "special airing" for even more revenue.

If they can't sell 1 million Jericho DVDs after all nuts stuff, well... at that point, the franchise is dead.
