Mara's role is secret (Sharon Carter ?) but Gregg is reprising his role as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson from the first film.

Sharon Carter, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

She's not specifically an Iron Man character, she's more of a Captain America character.

I'd never heard of Kate Mara until I saw on AICN that her sister , Rooney Mara, is in final negotiations to play Nancy in the Nightmare on Elm Street Remake.

Nice to see Clark Gregg returning for the sake of continuity and also nice to see the Marvel Universe being (apparently) expanded on with the inclusion of Mara's character.

I am just guessing here. I'm thinking that with the Avengers movie coming up they might start to cast various well known S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives other than Nick Fury - Dum Dum Dugan, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Clay Quartermain, Jessica Drew, Maria Hill etc.

I believe she has some relation to deceased New York Giants owner Wellington Mara.

Nice to see Gregg back and I like me some Kate Mara, good casting there, and if she is Sharon Carter its a good choice. Very close to the visuals of the comic character.

For those who may not read the whole Wiki piece she is a SHIELD agent and one time lover of Steve Rogers(Captain America). Seems they are fleshing SHIELD out as they go which is a good move. By the time you get to a Cap movie a number of pieces are already in place.

Sharon Carter was also able to be mind controlled into being the sniper that shot and killed Captain America in the comics at the conclusion of the Civil War story a few years back.

She's the niece of deceased owner Wellington Mara. She sings the national anthem at all the Giants home games as well. Good voice.
