More classic Dr Who figures on the way!

All-Seeing I

Commander
Red Shirt
The decaying Master from The Deadly Assassin, an Ice Warrior, the Morbius creature, a Mummy, a green Voc robot and an Earthshock Cyberman, all available to preorder at Forbidden Planet. I must admit, I was surprised when the email popped through from FP to inform me of their release - I thought I read that sales of the wave 1 figures were poor, and it would be unlikely that there would be a wave 2. Still, not complaining - I've already preordered the Master and the Cyberman (not a big fan of the Ice Warriors, and the Morbius figure looks rather poor). Hopefully this is a good sign that they will be releasing the 7th and 8th Doctors soon (perhaps limited editions like Drs 1, 2 and 3, with accompanying monster figures - might I suggest a special weapons Dalek to go with the 7th, and an Eric Roberts Master in Time Lord robes with the 8th?). Bring on the Revenge Cyberleader, a classic Sontaran, female Eldrad, a light-up Gell Guard and the other Masters!

Yeah, the Who toy community has known about that lineup for a while. Still, it's cool to finally see them listed in a store.

Did I read somewhere that there is a Ten Doctors pack in the pipeline?

Eleven Doctors, actually. ;)

Anyway, an image of the upcoming figures:

My favorite is definitely the Morbius monster. :D And while I like the decaying Master, it would have been nice to get Delgado's, or even Ainley's, first.

This would make sense!

I love the Earthshock Cyberman and the Ice Warrior. I suppose they lend themselves to being action figures.

The Morbius creature isn't quite as good - it looks a bit half-arsed, especially around the groin and hips.

The Master doesn't look brilliant either, but then the final toys usually look better than prototypes.

In other words, figures we Americans will NEVER get here. :(

Typically, I often find it the other way around. :p

I'm loving the Ice Warrior and the Earthshock Cyberman is growing on me since I first saw it but I've got to say that the Morbius monster and decaying Master look pretty grim in those shots.

It is usually the case though that they look better in the production model than in the pre-release photography so I can imagine I'll be getting them all.

Of course, you don' really have to guess at how the Mummy and Voc will look in the final versions, as they're already available in the 4th Doctor pack (along with the Doctor and the suicide-bomber Dalek from Destiny).

There's a dirty joke in there somewhere.

But seriously, I think the Master figure looks kinda cool. If I were going to get any in that bunch, it'd probably be that one.

I picked up one each of the first classic wave. I'll do the same here just because but for me, the only one I really like is the Cyberman.

Silly question, but I wonder what they're going to do on the Master figure underneath the robe.
A basic bland action figure body would be boring, but making everything under the robe fit with the face would be expensive, and very very horrible...

PS: As for why we're getting the skeletal Master ahead of Ainley and Delgado: an Ainley or Delgado figure means getting permission from their relatives (and paying them, but often it's the effort of tracking them down to ask that's the problem). The Deadly Assassin version doesn't.

The Earthshock Cyberman and the Mummy look cool, but I'm still holding out for the Seventh and Eighth Doctors.

And they are supposedly on their way. There was a prototype pic of the Seventh doctor floating around for a little while.

I just hope the QC is turned up a notch. I had a friend of mine in the UK ship me two of the UK exclusive PoM Tom figures and they only painted one side of the scarf. The back is plain white. WTF?

Yeah, I saw that. It looked pretty good. It didn't have the hat, though. I really want a McCoy with the hat.

That's not a QC issue, I think they are all like that. More likely a cost cutting measure - you shouldn't be looking at that side!

QC, bad decisions, whatever you want to call it. One side is blank and the other side is horribly outside the lines like a two year old with a colouring book. And don't even get me started on the eyebrows... which were a QC issue. Oh damn... now I'm on about the eyebrows...

But as I said, it STINKS that North Americans can NOT simply go to the neighborhood store and buy the figures (Yes, I actually buy my things with actual cash).

Seems to me that Uk and Japan get all the cool stuff we can only dream of. Not only do I want Dr. Who figures, I want also the various anime figures, like Reveltech's Fraulein figures or Figmas.

But no, collectors like me are stuck having to deal with online or, worse, put up with crap Hasbro & Playmates pumps out.

Thanks a heap, Character Options.

Now you know what it was like living in the UK trying to get Star Trek toys over the years. :)

You're not missing much, especially playmates stuff.
Besides, I heard Character Options, through Playmates, is trying to get the Star Trek 09 figures to UK. If UK can get our crappy stuff, Character Options outta send their stuff to us. Dr. Who has a large following in North America.

Character Options' fourth Doctor figure can kick Playmate's Captain Kirk ( Though I call him Wally Cleaver) figure any day. :bolian:
