Moral Dilemma - animals in sickbay

Captain Zog

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
In "A Night in Sickbay", Dr. Phlox basically murders a chameleon in order to transplant one of his organs to Porthos. How is that justifiable? Why does the dog have a greater right to life than the lizard? An ethically question decision to say the least.

He also violated protocols by turning a Lyssarian larva into a Trip clone and then murdered him too.

Not right, choice. The Captains friend and pet meant more to the wellbeing of the Captain than the reptile meant to anyone.

It's simply choice. The Doctor would not indiscriminately kill the lizard.

You got there before me, but my answer's the same. If the Captain isn't happy, the crew isn't happy. And if the crew isn't happy, the mission will fail. Saving Porthos is quite important in a roundabout way.

Then again - why did Archer bring a dog onto a ship that was getting attacked on a weekly basis, and especially on the Xindi mission?! :p

And why do we only see sickbay stacked with cages and animals when they're necessary to the plot? Where are they the rest of the time? :shifty:
