Moon Machines

I see that the Science Channel is repeating a series that debuted during their Space Week a couple of months ago: Moon Machines.

This is a short series, with six episodes, one each featuring the Saturn V rocket, the command module, the lunar module, navigation, the lunar rover and the spacesuits the astronauts wore. This week's episode has been the one on the Saturn V. It is repeated one more time, this upcoming Sunday night.

I recorded these during Space Week, and deleted them from my DVR after watching. At the time I knew this was a mistake. This series is a keeper. The most fascinating episodes to me are the ones on things that haven't been featured in the past, like navigation and the space suits. Did you know that the lunar suits were built by a company known for making bras because they had the technology for creating rubber things that moved well and fit tight to the body? I didn't.

I know there are a lot of fans here for the series From The Earth To The Moon. If you liked that, you'll love Moon Machines.

Highly recommended.

I'll second this. I have some really good stuff from Spacecraft Films on the Saturn boosters and the Apollo systems, but the spacesuit episode alone was worth watching the entire series. Quite fascinating.

And there is not a repeat of the Saturn V episode on Sunday, no matter what my DirecTV guide says. I tried to watch my recording last night, the one I made mid-week, and it was a different show, too. Harrumph!

I did go to the Science Channel's website and yes, an episode of Moon Machines is on each Tuesday, with one showing at 5 PM EDT. None of the repeats that show up in my DirecTV guide are there. Oh, well. At least I'll get the other 5 episodes on the DVR, and I'll pick up the Saturn V episode sometime down the road. This is the Science Channel. It will be repeated, again...and again...and again. :p

Trying to record this show has been like chasing a ghost. I have set my DVR three times now and gotten zilch. We'll see if it is on today, Wednesday, 8/13, at 5 PM, EDT. I have my doubts but this is the only time that both DirecTV and the Science Channel say that it is being broadcast.
