Monster Maroons

Even the Starfleet emblem was a cloth patch. If you weren't careful putting on your maroon jacket from TWoK, you might take a frigging eye out with all those pins petruding everywhere ...

Fletcher actually thought about that for TMP, too. Kirk's two-tone uniform had a metal pin, but that was only supposed to be for ground/shore duty. On a ship only the sewn-on badges would be used for safety reasons.

I understand that the TMP uniforms were also really hard to sit down in because of their tendency to ride up in the crotch. I stand by my statement.

I think that these maroon uniforms worked for TOS films, just imagine if they wore these in TMP too.
I wonder how TOS episodes would have been if the maroon uniforms existed in the '60s.

As I understand it, in the concept of automated and computer-controlled futuristic living in the setting of TMP, people's clothes would be beamed directly on and off of them rather than our current way of changing clothes. We do get a brief glimpse of this with the Ilya probe in the sonic shower. So it really doesn't matter if the uniforms are practical from our primitive and backwards point of view (I think in-universe, we aren't meant to notice the zippers on the backs either).

That's pretty damn lazy, having one's clothes beamed on them! Life's a little too convenient in the 23rd Century, it seems like. But I still love the TMP uniforms, in all of their designs and patterns ...

I like the ideas of different uniforms for different posts.

TMP for ground installtions, Voyager Uniforms should have been station only uniforms. TNG for ships--and the ST:TWOK uniforms kept for those of Admirall rank or higher.

The uniforms in First Contact and on-wards--save that for Macross, section 31 or something.
