Roll up roll up one and all - This is very very simple. Is the New film going to be a hit or a flop. Is it going to make big bank or break the bank?

If you want to give a rationale for your choice fine (and you can even go wild and predict the total box office), but otherwise just go with your gut.

Then when the time comes....

Hit.

Megahit status seems to rely on a few other factors such as hype, timing, competition, ad budget, and zeitgeist kind of stuff.

I vote "break even", and with a 160 mil + budget, I think that is being optimistic. More likely, it might be a really cool movie that loses 60 million dollars or more at the box office.

I'm guessing it will be a solid hit - box office around 285 million - held back a little bit by the way Trek is viewed by the 18-25 demo, but probably doing better overseas box office than previous Trek films.

This assumes that the studio plays it smart with the release date, and doesn't move it to go up against some other big opener (a tactic I have never understood, from a business perspective.)

I picked just "hit".

I think too many people from the general population will stay say " It's just another Star Trek movie." It will still sell more tickets than any Trek movie since Star Trek IV I think.

Oh I'm pretty sure the movie will make money. The unwashed masses who have never seen Trek in their sad pedantic lives will probably storm the theatres to see an over-marketed movie with pretty splosions in the commercials. But will it be a good movie? I highly doubt it.

I never saw TOS,TNG,DS9,VOY or any other STAR TREK movie, never been in a forum like this,or fandom for that matter, this movie got me interesed in Star Trek, in who Kirk or Spock is, and i assure you that i'm not a sad person. And yeah i like a movie with explosions and lots of action. From my point of view i think you are taking yourself to seriously, and your a jerk too

I voted Megahit. Other than a few grumpy old men (Haters Club), the trailer was viewed positively. I got some friends who don't like Star Trek to watch the full trailer and so far all say they would go see it. Even my brother who is the first to say he never has understood what I see in Star Trek! After watching the trailer he offered to go see it with me the week after it opens (he hates crowds and I can see it again with him.. so it is all good).

Welcome to our world. Unfortunately we have some of the Haters Club who love to call names.
I've been a Star Trek fan since the 1970s, but didn't know about this forum until I read an article about a new Star Trek movie.

hum...

Star Trek Zero, huh? Well, Abrams and his Cohorts do love the number zero. *cough*Kelvin registry*cough*
Dude, I've explained that 25 times around here. Or should that be 025 to fit with Abrams style numbering?
Because such registries have never been done before in Star Trek's 42 year history, it is logical to assume they are not allowed. Otherwise, why haven't the been done before?
Show me one canon registry number higher than two digits (meaning you can't use NX-01, NX-02, NX-09, NX-01-A) that started with a zero and I will shut up on the matter forever
Actually, there is no precedent for the leading zero. All registry numbers higher than two digits (thus eliminating NX-01) have never started with zero. In fact the USS Grissom had three digits...
Sorry, in all my bitching about the nacelle and the registry
The evidence has been around. How else do you explain single-nacelle ships, four digit registries starting with zero, or Uhura drinking kanar?

My opinion it will break even. It might be hit though. But even if just break even, it still should be consider hit, being it will be the highest grossing trek film.

Oh come on! All the things I've posted in this forum, and that's what you chose to showcase? I've posted much better, much funnier, much crazier.

At the very least, you should have included the one about me sacrificing sex. That one was gold.

You forgot mega blockbuster that is critically panned or box office bomb that is critically acclaimed.

Friend from Ohio, total non trekker, calls me today after seeing QoS: "Holyshit did you see the Star Trek trailer? It looks badass..."

Megahit.

Yeah, but just compare it to other high-budget movies. The new $185M-budget Indiana Jones movie was disappointing, but it grossed $786M worldwide.

You have just as many in the Lovers' Club who love to throw out the insults. Those of us that have any doubts about this film are shouted down pretty quick. Star Trek Orthodoxy anyone?

All of which is coming into motion already.

Thank you. Agreed.

Megahit. I think once word gets out that it doesn't reboot anything permanently it's going to be a smash hit!
