Monday Box Office - Trek #6 - $0.9 million

It looks like there will be more Trek on IMAX this coming weekend. The IMAX by me, which has been showing midnight showings on Friday and Saturdays is adding a second showing at 9 pm those days and also showing it everyday at 9pm.

Excellent--my local IMAX said mid-June, and I'll be there.

22 million of the box came from IMAX for Star Trek. Imagine if they geared the next movie more toward that format....

I think that TPTB would be absolutely foolish not to gear the next movie around IMAX. Imagine if they actually filmed the movie in IMAX and worked out a better contract where they get to keep Trek XII in IMAX theaters for more than 2 weeks.

It clearly paid off this time around and I imagine the suits noticed this as well

Trek has about 240-250 million in it. With the good buzz of this movie and the hope that it won't suck, Trek 2 is probably going to beat 300 million by a fair bit.

Look at Transformers 2--a four week contract for IMAX showings, bumping HP out of the way for two weeks before it can show there.

It is possible that T2 will break ST's record of IMAX sales, especially since "extra" scenes featuring Big Robot Battles are included in the IMAX version that won't be on the standard silver screen.

I'm not averse to Trek putting in those extra, massive-in-scope battle scenes for IMAX purposes.... it would work.

Long as there's a solid story there.

WOO HOO!!! Thank you so much for the heads up. I just checked, and we can see it in our IMAX tonight at 9:30!! I am so THERE. I'm almost in tears.

Huh? HP is opening in IMAX 3D, what are you talking about?

Really:cool:, this is only domestic numbers right? Also i am just wondering what is average IMAX ticket price in US.

We pay $12.50 in west suburban Chicagoland.

IMAX really does make a difference; these times I have been relegated to seeing the show in a regular theater have proven that.

When McCoy walks away from the academy steps, muttering "studying -- my ass," Karl Urban's interesting backside is below the screen. It's a pity, since I was used to watch for it clearly visible on the IMAX.

When HP moved to Summer, it bumped into Transformers 2's month-long IMAX contract. So the IMAX HP will open two weeks after the standard HP opens.

Showbizdata has the Tuesday numbers up - about 930,000 for Trek.

Yup, about the same as yesterday, but it's back in the #5 spot.

I updated the first post with the numbers rather than making a new thread.

Darn--I look forward to the new box office threads. I think others will look for it too, so don't be afraid to open a new one.

(IMO of course)

Alright, I just started a new thread.
