Up is really raking in the cash.

Well, just wait 'till Land of the... um, Imagine Th... um...

Okay, Year One then...

Something'll slow that thing down, won't it? Before it usurps the #1 movie of the year title from Trek?

Won't it?

WON'T IT?!?

WHERE DID WE GO WRONG?

Better than I expected, I was thinking TREK might fall under 500k...Looks like we will beat 240 sometime next week.

I'll say. I usually anticipate a drop somewhere in the 40% range, so that's a really good hold. If this week's Tues-Thurs period stays consistent with last week's in terms of holding it's Monday gross, we're looking at over $2.5M for the Mon-Thurs period this week. Those legs keep going!

I'm interested in seeing how The Hangover ends up. It's doing amazingly well, and if it has the same legs as Wedding Crashers, which its outpacing by $25 million, it could end up with $250-275 million.

Y'know, some have mentioned concern about the next movie being able to perform in 2011 against the next Spiderman.

Well, maybe it will be Spiderman that will have to worry about Star Trek, the sequel is anywhere near as well received as this one.

In any event, good blockbusters can share the limelight, as evidenced by Up and Hangover, and previously by F&F and MvA.

Hmm, hard to say. I have a feeling that Spider-Man 4 will still do boffo business, despite the lukewarm reaction to Spider-Man 3. If I were Paramount, I might want to schedule the release of ST XII a few weeks apart from Spider-Man 4.

Of course, you never know... ST managed to trounce Wolverine after opening only one week later, but that film had a few disadvantages. Is there any way someone can leak a workprint copy of Spider-Man 4 a month before it hits theatres? :p

In any case, I'm sure there'll be other blockbusters opening during the summer 2011 movie season. I'm reasonably confident ST XII will manage to hold its own, but I think it would help if it avoids any direct competition with another blockbuster opening at the same time.

As for Trek's intake for Monday... it's all good. Up and The Hangover are still going strong, I see, but I'm sure if Year One doesn't stop them, Transformers: ROTF surely will. Which should make Paramount very happy.

Year One will probably siphon the few viewers going to Land of the Lost... :p

I agree that the next Trek movie should ideally have a week or two by "itself" blockbuster movie wise to ensure a hefty box office take.

And then do the striding thing with its legs...

I'm not sure Year One will have much impact. I kinda want to watch, but I'm surprised by the number of people I know who have already said they hate Jack Black and don't want to watch it...even more than those who I talked to who didn't want to watch LOTL.

Interesting. Okay then, strike Jack Black as Harry Mudd... :p

Then there's that Bullocks movie debuting as well...

Nothing really to hasten Star Trek's inevitable, but pleasingly slow erosion...

I didn't even know there was a Spiderman 3, let alone a 4. Or I forgot. Yeah that was probably it.

Ah now I remember.... 3 was the one with the black suit. Meh. *yawn*

4 should be better, as long as the studio/producers don't force Raimi to change the story like they did on 3.
