Monday (6/1) Box Office - $1.3 million

No matter what happens....it's been one HECK of a ride.

The franchise is in better shape than ever.

The franchise is in better shape than ever.

Without recent sales figures on DVDs and books from Star Trek series other than the current movie, it's not really fair to say that.

The "franchise" involves more than just one film with the Star Trek name attached, and it is the flow-on effect to those other series that will truly reflect its health.

No, it'll be when the next movie makes 350 million dollars domestic and 175 million foreign when its health will be reflected.

That and DVD sales of Star Trek.

And increased sales and interest in the original series and spin-offs, which is anecdotal, but there.

Sorry, but this is a renaissance, and I'm thrilled to be along for the ride.

it'll happen... I know you don't want it to.. but it will ;)

Oh yes, I'm sure that as a devoted fan of all the other series and almost all movies, having spent quite a bit of time defending each from the relentless tide of negativity, I will be quite devastated that a film I described as very good will increase their fanbase.

It is remarkable how any hint of neutrality or caution in the face of gushing over the film's success is taken as a desire to see it and Star Trek as a whole fail.

Actually the franchise is (only) as good as it's last presentation, which in this case is the movie.
After NEMESIS, and then ENTERPRISE being canceled, the franchise was pretty much dead.
