Mom has breast cancer... Again

Guartho my thoughts are with you and your family. My mother-in-law and my step mom have both survived breast cancer. Just a few months after my mother-in-law finished her treatment my step mom was diagnosed. Fortunately in both cases the cancer was caught early and treatable. It sounds like you mother's was caught early as well. I pray she'll have a quick recovery.

She and Dad are headed back up there on Monday to discuss the full official results and options.

Best wishes to your entire family. I have nothing in my life to compare this to, so I can only imagine your sorrow.

I'm very sorry to hear this, Guartho. Best wishes to you, your mom, and the rest of your family. I hope she has a full recovery.

Sorry I haven't been expressing appreciation for all the good will. It's kinda funny, but I feel like an attention whore reading them. They're appreciated nonetheless.

Mom had her follow-up appointment and go the official full-blown biopsy results yesterday. It went about as well as it possibly could (not counting "We fucked up, you don't actually have cancer at all. Please don't sue us.")

Needing chemo is very unlikely, which I think was the big cloud over Mom's head since this mass was farther along than the one from 20 years ago. 20 years ago the cancer wasn't even a mass, it was "nodules." She'll have either a lumpectomy with radiation or another mastectomy, probably without even radiation. They'll check her lymph nodes and if they're fine she's done.

Either way the procedure shouldn't be nearly as physically taxing as last time around. It's not scheduled yet, but she could have the procedure before Christmas and be "Ok" by Christmas. That seems downright miraculous to me.

Best of luck to you all. I'm hoping for the best possible outcome (up to and including the "We fucked up").

I wish you and your family the best. In my family, we're dealing with my dad's enlarged heart, so i can understand what you're going through.
