About 20 years ago give or take, my mother had to have her left breast removed to prevent the spread of breast cancer.
Recently a pap smere was cause for further tests and pre-canerous cells were found in her uterous so a historectomy was planned. In the preliminary check-up for that a mammogram was performed (she gets regular mammograms too of course) and a lump was found in her right breast.
So this morning she had the historectomy and a biopsy. The doctor spoke with us just now. The lump was malignant. Further surgeries will be necessary.
Mom is in recovery now. She may not know yet. The doctor will tell her when she wakes up, before we can see her.
She's over 60 and has been very worried about this possibility. She said "I don't want to go through that again.
I told her there have been 20 years of medical advancements since then, but I know there have been 20 more years on her body too.
