Moffat's surprises

I guess there's still the Judoon. Hmm, the Twelfth Doctor meets up with Martha and Mickey and together they take on a renegade Judoon who is stirring trouble on Earth. Nice way to celebrate the nu series' anniversary. Hell, to make the experience complete, there can be internet bitching about how no effort was made to bring back John Barrowman or for some reason Paul McGann.

Most of that made me :) the last sentance made me

Honestly, the Slitheen were unique. Farting aside, I don't see how they're any worse than many DW monsters - especially compared to OldWho monsters.

My nitpick with them, however, would be that in their initial appearences, they look quite obviously CGI-ed. Not as detrimental to the overal episode quality, but still distracting to an extent.

I think it' mostly their alien shape design. For close-up they have this sooo obvious fake looking puppet look it's off putting and then they turn into these fast moving obvious CGI fakes in the action shots.
They were actually best in human disguise.
I wonder if they would have been better received by the audience if their alien design looked like something nasty that actually fits inside a human skin suit.

The difference between live action Slitheen and CGI really couldn't be anymore obvious if it tried. I was too busy laughing at them back in 2005 to take them seriously as threatening. The Silence and to a degree The Whispermen on the other hand were more effective.
