Ruminations:
Applejack? A liar?! We'll find out when we watch the latest episode!

This was a fun episode. I still stand by the idea that Filthy Rich is actually a decent business pony, and not the unethical businessman he's portrayed as in the EQG films. This time around we got to see Big Mac, Applejack, and Granny Smith when they were much younger. We find out why Big Mac is so quiet, and why Applejack is so determined to be forever truthful. The hijinx were fun, and the moral lesson a good one, though it does make me wonder about something: where was Applebloom?

If their parents were alive at the time, why were Big Mac and Applejack talking about who would take over the farm? Filthy Rich is doing business with Granny Smith, and doesn't mention either of Applejack's parents when she strikes the deal with him. When they visit the hospital, it's Big Mac, Applejack, and Granny Smith, but no one else. It's just a question I've had since I watched the episode.

All in all, still a fun episode, and it gets an "A" from me. :)

*sighs* two straight episodes of Applejack lying her ass off. Look, I know they're new writers, and I know they've all said they never watched the show before writing their scripts, just summaries provided for them to save time. But could someone not have given them a bolded segment mentioning honesty.

People all over the ponyboards are going on about how out of character they're all acting this season and I agree from what I've seen. These are flanderised secondary character versions of the characters I knew in the earlier seasons, all playing second fiddle to that recoloured Mary Sue still.

Even though I still enjoy the show, I can't deny that this is true. Compare the first couple of seasons with this one, and it feels like two different casts of characters.

They also side stepped the parent issue. But Applebloom would have been born around that point, maybe they were off somewhere with the newborn during this.

Yeah, people were looking forward to learning about AJ's parents. It's just that the two were talking as if their parents were already gone.
