Ruminations:
Rainbow Dash getting a delicious taste of her own medicine, served up with a modern twist on the horror genre? Yes, please.

Coooooooookieeeeeees...

It gets a B, for some of the earlier scenes with Dash violating Wheaton's Law (especially going after Fluttershy at the start), but the rest was brilliant. They did a good job of making it seem like it was actually happening - like the bit with Pinkie feeling ill at the start of it - although I wonder whether the target audience might find it a bit too scary!

I'm going to say A for this. I'm a sucker for certain B movies and I've seen this story before...
Pepper Ann did an episode where a prank war got out of control and the lead character had to have the tables turned before she understood what she did. It's funnier with Dash and ponies.

I liked it. I'm not a zombie person, but this episode was a lot of fun, with the only downside being that Rainbow Dash pranked Fluttershy, and as we all know from "Griffon The Brush-off" in season one, you don't ever prank Fluttershy. I was a bit surprised when Pinkie seemed okay with pranking her. Otherwise, the moral was good, the episode was fun, and it was neat to see the ponies doing something a bit different. Plus, Spike's look to Twilight when she's buying Filly Guide cookies (yeah, Spike, we all agree that one box is never enough) makes this a B+, and I'll round that up to an "A". Lots of fun, lots of heart, good moral.

Cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooookieees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a bit transparent what was going on but I still enjoyed the cookie zombies bit. Too light on story for an A for me, though. I would have preferred if Dashie's pranks had been a little less mean.

Yeah, Dashie was a bit too mean this time around for my liking.

It was inevitable, but many times this season both my wife and I found ourselves saying "these ponies should know better by now". Granted - the show is aimed at the 5-8 year old set, and those who were 5-8 years old when the show started are no longer in the target demo, so thematically repeating certain lessons is acceptable from a production point of view. After all, new viewers won't have seen the early seasons and it's all new territory to them, so why not another story of someone learning a lesson on something they should already have learned?

That said, this was a fun one, and I'm willing to forgive Dashie's lackof forethought in exchange for her enthusiasm and creativity, and for the producers' acknowledging her existing like of pranking (notably from the first Nightmare Night episode). Same thing with last week, forgiving that Dash, Rarity and AJ shouldn't be so quick to be so careless of their charges so we can watch a neat race and neater tributes to the background ponies (Rarity losing to DERPY?!). In context, it's just what we should expect from the show at this point.

I think the point of "Cart Before the Ponies" was a not-so-subtle reminder to parents... Don't live through your child; let them be themselves. And kids learn that it's okay to speak up.
