Ruminations:
'Tis the season, apparently, and this Hearth's Warming we have Starlight Glimmer spending it away from everything she's ever known before. We'll get to explore a little bit more of Equestria's past it seems, which is always good, and we'll maybe get to see some more character development from Starlight. So far I've been liking what we've been seeing, and I'm hoping she'll become better integrated into the family of friends. So ring those bells, and light those candles. Winter's come early, and we're getting to be merry in the middle of May!

You know, sitting here with the blazing sunshine coming through the windows, I was really expecting this to fall flat. "Hearth's Warming Eve" was never one of my preferred episodes, and having this one at the wrong time of year seemed rather off.

I am really, really glad I was wrong.

Luna song. Luna song! LUNA SONG!

Well, that was as awful as I thought it was going to be.

Thankfully Daniel Ingram let slip on Twitter that we've only seen 1 of 3 "villain songs" written for Starlight. So we can drop this mane7 bullshit and get back to her being evil by the finale apparently.

I'd love to know if Kelly Sheridan is having fun. I mean... It's still pretty funny to me that she's done the voice of Barbie for so long and outside of Robot Chicken, I can't see Barbie being murderous...

That was amazing! All those songs! And it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Loved the cameos, from Snowdash to the ghosts. I liked the presents song the best - I think that's the first time we got a jazzy number on the show. Also, Starlight has a fantastic singing voice.

Haven't they all been at the wrong time of year? Ditto with the Nightmare Night episodes?

Luna Eclipsed actually aired close to Halloween, if memory serves.
Speaking of Luna... she does scary quite well. And was anyone else thinking of the Christmas Carol musicals?

Yeesh, I thought I was harsh on it, FimFiction and the UK forum are making me look kind to it. Wasn't expecting that backlash over it.

MUSICALS!

Hearth's Warming is a special time! I'm glad we got to see some terrific Hearth's Warming celebrations! It's Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol but with ponies, and far more awesome! So much singing in this episode! They did a lot in 22 minutes, but it could have been two hours and I would have loved every second of it.

We got to see Derpy being her adorable self, all of our pony friends having fun and being a part of the holiday spirit, and it was just such a heartwarming episode, I love it so much.

The story was enjoyable. While we've seen the various incarnations thousands of times, pony does it just a bit differently, and it's all the better for it. There were times when I was tearing up because it was just so sweet (especially the quick shot of the homeless pony!), but I had a smile on my face the entire time. The ghosts of Hearth's Warming were well played, with Luna being the clearly most awesome one of them all, with the best song, too, and at the end, Starlight learns that there's more to a holiday than just candy and presents.

This one easily gets an "A".

This was a great episode! The songs were quite enjoyable, there were lots of nice touches in the animation (such as Derpy's very cute bits, DJPON-3 having period glasses and instruments, etc.), and the story was an enjoyable take on "The Christmas Carol" with some unique flair. I quite liked it! Six seasons in, and FiM has still got it! :)

Oh, Derpy was in top form this episode, I agree. :D

Actually, they've all been pretty close - "Luna Eclipsed" aired October 22, "Hearth's Warming Eve" December 17, "Hearts and Hooves Day" February 11 (man, season 2 did a lot of holiday episodes!) and "Scare Master" October 31. I think "Hearthbreakers" was the only one to fall at the wrong time, and even then it was still October.

Of course, "Equestria Games" aired two years after the Olympics... :)

This one was more than a bit out of whack. I mean, warm and sunny outside, with green grass and blue skies, but on my monitor it's Hearth's Warming. I wonder why they decided to broadcast it now and not in the second half of the season?

Apparently Discord was meant to be part of the episode, but a scheduling conflict meant John de Lancie couldn't record for the role, and it was rewritten.

Photos of the script were leaked last week that showed the locked script as April 20th 2015, so they must have rewritten it to remove him between the January and April dates on it.

You'd think they could have worked on *something* better with over a year to work on it.

John de Lancie would've been a heck of a lot of fun too!
Oh, man! Fluttershy as his Belle! If they kept the Scrooge musical, that is. "Another idol has displaced me... Will you stop messing with reality?!"

That would have been interesting to see. To me, Discord as the whole reason behind why the ghosts visit Snowfall Frost would have been a lot more fun. Still, I liked the episode as it is. A bit too short, but then when these episodes tackle so much inside of 20 minutes, it's never enough. Mickey's Christmas Carol is one of my all time favorite adaptations, and even at 26 minutes they had to truncate a hell of a lot of it.

Where *is* Discord anyway?
Good question. From what I hear, there are two Discord episodes this season. It's possible he'll appear in episode 11 this season, as:
That is the episode where we get to meet Fluttershy's brother.
Undoubtedly, he'll have some party in that one.
