Ruminations:
Fans of the old Hatfields and McCoys story should enjoy this one, as it's essentially that story but played out with candy colored ponies. Will we get pies this time around? Who knows, but we're going to find out. This is the next to last episode before the season finale two-parter, and I'm curious if whether or not this episode will play into the season's over-arcing theme. On to the episode!

Maybe they'll take a leaf from "Avatar: The Last Airbender..."

At least it was hours and not weeks. And come on, it's Amazon.

Don't rob me of my visions of small grey derphorse in a server room somewhere pulling levers.

Derpy running Amazon would explain so many things...

Well, it was a fun episode, but largely forgettable IMO. Flutters is as adorable as ever, and it's cute to see Twilight continue to be her adorkable, organized self. I'm glad to see she's starting to learn that books and charts don't hold the answers to everything, that sometimes firsthand experience matters. The little animals chittering to Fluttershy were adorable, too.

I liked the Hooffields and McColt characters, and that the Smoky Mountains exist in Equestria (as I live not too far from them). They are indeed beautiful, and there are indeed families way back in the hills who get on to fussin' and a feudin'.

Applejack would have loved this episode. In the meantime, I gave it an A!

Re: MLP:FIM S5E23 - "The Hooffields and McColts" - Grading & Discussio

I gave it an A too mostly for Bookhorse and getting a good laugh from the hillbillies.

It felt like a filler episode, and it's annoying as a lot of Twilight's have been this season. But like the Rainbow Rocks novelisation and her remarks this episode, they're having her deal with the day to day business of Equestria seeking her advice.

We're seeing more of Equestria itself and the mane6 helping out on a larger scale. That and the cutie mark identity are the main themes this season, the finale will probably bring that altogether in a couple of weeks.

Although...inbreeding is canon? yikes

Bookhorse is always awesome. :adore:
Also, yeah, while I was watching the families, it started to sink in that something was very wrong with that picture.

They were very samey all around, down to their coat colours, not good.

And over on Twitter, one of the main storyboard artists tweeted they've boarded the season 6 finale. So a lot of work has been finished on it already. And it wasn't a typo as the animatics of the S5 finale were finished back in March.

That is crazy! They've already planned so far ahead!

Re: MLP:FIM S5E23 - "The Hooffields and McColts" - Grading & Discussio

I'm not sure. We saw the animatic of the season 5 finale back at SDCC earlier this year and that usually comes later the basic finished storyboard, so the upcoming finale might have only been at this point a year ago.

The rumours of a year long wait could be true yet.

Re: MLP:FIM S5E23 - "The Hooffields and McColts" - Grading & Discussio

Well, it can still take a year to animate everything... And even if S6 goes back to the more traditional airing schedule, there will still be smaller breaks in between.

No, I mean John de Lancie saying the gap between season 5 ending and season 6 beginning was a year this time, beyond the 11 months we had before, with another mid season hiatus.

Re: MLP:FIM S5E23 - "The Hooffields and McColts" - Grading & Discussio

Exactly, and I'm just hoping he heard wrong.
